Make sure there are no shorting jacks in any of the tape out terminals. Clean the tape monitor switches. There also is an audio muting circuit which could be malfunctioning. Description is in the service manual 'pages 8 and 9.

Do the Power Meters move? There are two fuses (internal) to the outputs after the power amp modules, but before the meters. If they are blown the meters will not move and no sound will come out, even to the headphones. But if they are both blown it may indicate a greater problem.

Do yourself a small favor, and get a multimeter with at least something like a PM8900 or 9508 based chip. Most of these will have true RMS to at least 1KHz, fused current ranges, a CE and/or UL listing (or at least Underwriters recognized "UR" rating). You can get a fairly full-featured and capable meter with safe leads for right around 20 bucks. Of course, you can spend more and get less, or buy a recognized, established brand like Fluke and at least be safe. It would be good to have something with a mV range, a diode test function, audible continuity annunciator, Category IV test leads for at least 600V, as well as all the "normal" features and functions.
