Platter stuck

Evening folks,

I am heading on a road trip tomorrow to retrieve a receiver I had rebuilt, and figured while I am at it i will take my turntable with the have the tech look over.

It is a JVC QL Y66F, lovely looking table that has always served me well. RCA cables need replacing though so I want that done.

Trouble is, I am wrapping it up and removing the platter for travel and it won't come off. Is there a trick to these tables?!

Judging by the service manual and owners manual it just drops on, but I have pulled as hard as I am comfortable with before something goes wrong....

Anyone familiar?

Grab a big screwdriver and use the handle to give the spindle a good wack. It works nearly every time.

Some platters have a spring on the back side of the platter. I just went thru a Sansui like this. You may have already tried this but i am going to put it ou anyway.
Put your thumbs on the spindle and fingers on the platter edges and push the spindle hard as you put pressure on the edges EVENLY. It should pop off.

Had tried all of these already, even the screwdriver trick...but ended up trying again using a pair of vice grips (hammer outside in the garage) to tap on the spindle while pulling up on the platter. I layered a cloth over the spindle to soften the blows and metal on metal, after a few more tries it eventually popped off .

There looked to be a gold lock ring on top of the platter, which was why I was a little worried, but with the platter removed I realized it is just the machined tapered fit spindle.

This table is beautiful even on the underside!

Anyways thanks for the quick replies! Once I get my receiver back and everything hooked up i will try to post some pictures...but first a 800km road trip :S
