Plz Clarify - Best Glue for Rubber Surrounds on Paper Cones?

I read all through the sticky (no pun intended) thread about the various types of surround glue.

It all seems to talk about glue for doing foam surrounds. But what is the correct glue to use to when replacing old foam surrounds with new rubber surrounds?

I'll need to know the best glue to adhere rubber to paper. Cheap-o rubber cement?

Though you probably realize this, it should be pointed out that it's not advisable to replace foam with rubber. I have no expreience here, but have seen it said on here that it will affect the performance of the driver. However, in a real world aplication I have no idea how much.

But why not just stick with foam? It's cheap and easy to install and lasts for 20 to 30 years.

Ed, it's one of those situations where the company used foam only in the early production stage, then switched to rubber for the several years of production that followed. I happened to get one of the very early pairs that are foam surrounds. So not only were they meant to be rubber, only the rubber is available, and they are a very odd size as well. Thanks
 
Loomis, you've piqued my curiosity. I gotta know- what brand and model woofer are we talking here? (Kef?)
 
Probably ADS/Braun. FWIW, I always thought the foam-surrounded versions sounded better than the later ones. The rubber-surrounded ones sounded a bit overly polite and reserved...

I really like the "stifflight" rubber surround woofers in my ADS L730's. I find them to be some of the most balanced and musical woofers around. I have never heard a set of foam surround ones, if they are better that would be great.

Aleen's Tacky Glue. I've used it to glue butyl surrounds (EPI) to paper cones with great success.

I second the Aleene's use that stuff all the time. My BA's with poly cones and foam surrounds are holding well and so are my HPM type woofers with the graphite cones / foam surrounds. I use the quick dry version and i wish it still dried quicker.
 
So before I begin, definately use Aleen's Tacky glue to attach new rubber surrounds to old paper cones? This would be on the part closest to the dust caps.

There will also be (on the outside part) rubber on rubber (new surround on old ring). Use Aleen's as well?
