Polk lsim705

Hi,
I am considering buying a pair of "b" stock lsim705's and am wondering if anyone here owns a pair or has heard a pair play? I have to order them via the net and can't hear them beforehand. I can purchase them for about 1/3 list price, which seems pretty reasonable for a speaker of this caliber. Any insight is appreciated, cheers!

Hope you're right darkblue, went ahead and ordered them. They list here in Canada at CAN$2100/each, got 'em for CAN$699/each. I'll update when they arrive, never owned Polks before hoping for good things!

When I got back into the hobby, I got a pair Polks (not as nice as the ones your getting tho) & that started the ball rolling & it hasn't stopped yet. I liked the Polks sound alot but the cheaper speakers I got had some weak spots at certain frequencies. If I could have afforded LSIMs at the time, I think I'd probably still have them.

I had a fridge cart to get them in here, might have to get a buddy to come over and help place them. Box says 86lbs a piece, hate to drop one :(

Thanks, Hoping for great thing from them!

I did manage to wrestle them into place myself without a getting a hernia. They have a fairly narrow profile from the front, but are quite tall at 47". Knew the wife would point that out to me when she got home.
I've been a/b 'ing them a bit this aft against the speakers they're replacing- JBL Lsr6328p's w/ Lsr4312sp sub. I need to get better amplification for the Polks (just have an old 100w/channel integrated powering them) to make it a more fair test. The Polks are a very nice refined speaker with a little fatter sound through the midrange then the studio monitors. Maybe that's a 4-way vs. 2-way thing? Idk. The monitors are more forward-sounding with more detail and "smoothness" I guess you'd call it. Not sure. I've been listening to these JBL's for a couple of years now and have grown quite fond of their "sound". I've listened to a lot of hi-end hifi speakers (Harbeth, Totem, Paradigm, PSB, B&W etc.) and really haven't heard any that I'd say shamed these monitors/sub. The Polks sound very good, but I hate to say it ...the JBL's might be a squeaker preferable to me. I sat my wife on the couch with her eyes closed and asked her to pick which speaker she preferred as I played the same song through both setups (sub off). She picked the JBL's everytime, crap!
I think it's the difference between a scalpel and a dinner knife, you know? The monitors let you hear so deep into the music.
These Polks image like no tomorrow though, just listened to Pink's "Try" and the piano triads at the beginning of the song are just floating in midair halfway between me and the speaker...surreal!

It's all good, the Polks are staying here and I certainly like how they play...maybe moreso with better quality amplification! I wanted a speaker that sounds fantastic with looks to match. Got it with these as they look like works of art, the fit and finish is that good. My livingroom doesn't look like a dorm anymore to boot, which was my original reason for taking the JBL's out.

Give them time to acclimate and break in before passing any serious judgement on them. Read the manual for break-in information. It's a real thing. Pretty soon you'll be telling us about how you're now hearing things in your favorite music that you've never heard before and saying things like "wow", "OMG" and "Holy $#!+"

What integrated amplifier are you currently using?
Oh and by the way, it's just a flesh wound.:rflmao:

Yep. Give them time to break in. Not sure about Polks but 50 hours is not uncommon. You'll hear them change as they mature - its a cool process. Nice speaks.... 2 weeks from now she'll be picking the Polks every time.
