Polk TSi100's VS Optimus Pro 7's

I purchased a pair of Polk TSi100's to replace my vintage Optimus Pro 7's in my den and was very disappointed! I have had the Radio Shack speakers since the 90's and have been very happy with the sound they produce hooked up to my Pioneer SX-737. I thought I might move the Pro 7's to my hobby room where I have my Sansui 1000X powering a pair of Minimus 7's (Pro 7's are ported in the rear and have better bass than the Minimus 7's) The polk bass was not as well defined as the Pros and the the higher frequencies seemed muted compared to the Pros! Oh well, live and learn! New is not always better.

I have the TSi200s... they differ from the 100s by having a second 5.25" woofer. I've found the highs and lows were adequate, though I also have a Polk sub in this same system.

Are the 100s broken in? Are you sure you didn't get + and - crossed at the Pioneer or at the speakers themselves? Just covering the bases here....

I have found the Polks to be a bit brighter than other speakers, though not as bright as Klipsch (not knocking any brand here).
