Possible DIY SET amp project....

I have a set of the infamousr AKAI RTR amps, seen here:

http://audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=202667

I am thinking of making these into a Dual mono stand alone amp. I can get a Chassis custom made. Only other parts I'd need would be new caps, speaker terminals and RCA inputs. Everything else is already there. I would be eliminating the mic input and the buikt in preamp section.

The part were I need an expert is the wiring. I'm sure someone here can help me out.

What are you thoughts on this project?

Hey Homes- I assume you are gonna keep them in the chassis they are in now and build boxes to slide them into. I can help if you want. Sorry I don't want to rip mine apart. Do they both work now?

Naw, I am thinking of just taking out the vital parts and installing them onto a custom chassis...

One works perfect, the other is not passing the signal. It is also making some noise, prolly needs new caps.

That would be some undertaking! I think I mentioned this before, but it could be the input jack/switch or another switch causing 1 to not work. They are linked inside by metal sliders to select inputs etc. I should come over and take a look. You have a tube tester? John

C'mon over anytime... I'm off mon and tue next week.

Yes, I have a tube tester and all tubes tested good...

There is a known schematic, but if you're making your own set of monos you can really use just about any SE el84 schematic. Each amp has a choke in it's PS, it's rated for 3H. Makes a nice CLC supply in the current amp, I'd make sure I re-used each choke. Outputs are decent sized. They have a cap strapped across one winding, someone once told me it was "for stability" and to replace it with another cap of same value higher quality. I'd try it both way, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

GOod luck!

I'm currently searching for a schematic for an Akai 1710 / 1710W model reel to reel
It has a single ended amp (stereo) using 12AT7 preamp and 6AR5 outputs
Any assistance locating a schematic is appreciated
