Hello,I really appreciate your response to my mail.I want you to
consider the item sold, pls do withdraw the advert from craigslist to
avoid disturbance and to be rest assured on my side that i have bought
it.I want you to know that i will be paying via cashier's check .I

the mailing of the check...


1.Full name to write on the check
2.Full Physical address to post the check
3.Home & Cell Phone to contact you

Sam,
I won't say that you're wrong on this one,mainly because I don't know,and you may be spot-on. :scratch2:

There may be a chance that they may be legit.Is this a well-known/well documented approach?
I'd almost be inclined to accept the check,wait to see if it cashes....

Better to exercise caution,if your 'spidey senses' are telling you something. :nono:

i appreciate your quick response on this sales i am very much
satisfied with the condition and i want you to know that my term
of payment is by certified check drawn from us bank and i have my own
shipper that will come for the pick up of the item upon your
confirmation of receiving and cash the check, and again to let you
know that you don't need another buyer for the item so do withdraw the
advert from CL and get back to me with the following information to
have the check mail out to asap.
1.....full name to write on the check
2.....full physical address to mail the check to please not P.O BOX
3.....Home & Cell Phone to contact you

As clearly stated in my ad, MY term of payment is cash - US dollars. And I do not give my home address to anyone.

EDIT: The first clue for me is always the e-mail that doesn't mention the item at all, merely 'Is this still available' or words to that effect.

This one is pretty well documented. The 'buyer' sends a cashier's check which seller deposits/cashes. A goon comes by to pick up the goods and the 'shipping fees'. Check bounces, seller is on the hook for the check, out the 'shipping fees' and the merchandise is LONG gone.

Things must work differently here in Australia,because if the check 'cashes',it has been determined to be 'above-board' by the Bank's verification processes.
I wish I knew more about,just how the Law determines liability,if the Banks have issued the cash without performing sufficient verification.

Here the bank is pretty much liable for nothing. If it takes them a week to clear the check it is your fault if its a fake and they will deduct the funds from your account. We have a very powerful banking lobby.

We also have something called the Fed Wire that electronically interconnects most larger banks so the 'week' is a myth, but the banks either won't or don't use it effectively.

On CL, simplicity is best. Cash and carry NEVER gets me into trouble.

Out of state checks take a week to credit and in state checks, sometimes a few days. The bank usually cannot tell you it is bad on the spot. By the time the notice arrives in the mail, your item has been picked up and is long gone.

We had a check written to our business that was returned to us after 27 days. No Joke. It was a local check and not some far off obscure bank.
I went to the bank and said the the F***. How can anyone do business if after that long of period they can deduct money out your account.
Everyone at the back was pointing fingers at everyone else and finally blamed the holidays for the delay. B.S.
Anyway, the point is there is no time limit for returned checks here in the states. This has never happened in the past but, it can.

Good point. The only form of check I accept is usps postal money order because i can walk out with the cash.

Very strange system you have over there. Who will ever use a system with that kind of security? Looks like a really bad product to me and I´d be ashamed to be a productdeveloper at that company...
 
I've had a few scam e-mails off CL.. every time I reply back saying "Sorry.. I don't do business with scammers..." Seems to be the last mail of the exchange...

I use CL because I want to deal with someone local face to face and in cash.. If I wanted to take a check and ship something I'd use e-bay.
