problem wiht fisher rs - 1035 ???

so i was listening to my system, and it seemed like my left speaker was puting out more bottom end then my right, so i turned the blance all the way to the right, and both speakers stayed at the same volume, but got very choppy sounding, i turned it all the way to the right and the same thing happend, i tried it with all the differnt sourses and the same thing happend, then i tried it with my headphones form the headphone out, and the balance worked for them, then i tried the "b" speaker termenals, and the same thing happend, so i figure it must be a problem in the power amp section, then i pushed in the "mono mode" button and the blance worked fine... then i took it out of mono mode and the balance continued to work fine... when it was in monomode i discoved that the left speaker deffinatly has more low end then the right one... anyone have any imput on this kind of problem, are the blance not working the the one speaker seeming have more bottom end (and maybe more volume overall) two differnt problems? and even know the blance is working now should i just consuder it a fluke, or is it the first signs of something that is going to have to be fixed :scratch2:

Clean all of your switches and pots

I would agree, clean all the switches and pots, first and foremost before anything else. The Fishers I have have never really been too bad in this department but I have had similar problems on receivers with dirty switches. I don't recall if the RS-1035 uses the pushbutton type controls or the toggle ones, the toggle ones seem a bit less trouble prone than the pushbuttons from my experience. Most notibly the MCS 3125 with those tone defeat buttons, and the Sansui 990DB dropping channels (took three cleanings to get that one right if I recall) were the worst when it came to dirt hurting performance. The MCS actually did very similarly to what you describe at first.

Lots of gear on Ebay is sold as nonworking, or one channel cuts out, etc, when all they need is a good switch and pot cleaning. I got a KA-9100 that way, advertised as one channel not working. I got it in, fiddled with all of the switches on the front, found a dirty one, cleaned it, and it worked fine for me. Cosmetics were just fair though, and not as they advertised. Why the heck am I telling you guys my secrets?
