Profound examples of component "break-in"

It would probably be on the order of billions of times. :sigh:But, the material is actually intended to be flexable guys! It's really not a mystery!:smoke: You folks are too much fun!

That's like saying it takes walking in a pair of shoes for a million miles to change the leather. Or folding a piece of paper a million times to have the fold become permanent. It's just not true. I'm not talking magic I'm talking high school physics. Not even AP physics!

Whether or not it's a night and day difference is up to somebody else's ears. I'm still just glad my AT-150 doesn't sound like it did out of the box.

Work any of them back and forth a number of times and they become more compliant. Why does this simple action not apply to loudspeakers?

It does. Though the decrease in fs is pretty much offset by an increase in VAS leaving the f3 pretty much the same. Note that I equivocate.

I agree about High school physics. Here's another example for you. crease a piece of sheet metal back and forth a couple thousand times. Now crease a piece of leather a couple thousand times......Back and forth. Now let's do that same thing to a piece of neoprene rubber...............Uhhh? Physics applied. There is a big difference in the characteristics of different material, and in the engineering behind there design and application. Sneakers or shoes, endure thousand of different movements and stresses, in all sort of different directions and conforme to an all together different shape than they started out. Speakers on the other hand move in the same fashion over and over, suspended by materials carefully formulated and engineered to more than easily cope with these stresses. The surrounds on a speaker are intended to act as a hinge. In the case of shoes, there are other factors at work, the main stress being shear! Taking a flat surface and trying to move it on it's flat axis, hence the wrinkles and wear and eventual holes and tearing. Speakers don't encounter shear forces at all. Period! We're talking about two totally different principles here.

Based on the 1200+ people who have veiwed this thread, and factoring in that about 75 comments are made, many of them by the same 15 or so people.......... I call a big fat and resounding B....S....turd! But that's me! Again, you can believe in Marijuana, wine Lavetra, magic sparklies and Voo doo yahoo, what have you. But the demographics reveal that this is fairy tail from the movie close encounters. And some alien stuck something up your butts..And not in the good way either! If you could go back and change the title to SUBTLE examples..........I could possibly believe it. Like the saying goes brothers and sisters of this lucky charms Church.....If you believe it.....Then it IS true!

I've been watching this thread, and have refrained from posting lately because I really don't want to get caught up in the trollfest and namecalling that this thread has devolved into. I think it is an excellent topic for discussion, but not in the manner in which you seem to want to take it. I don't see much humor in it, sorry.

I get your point, though. You don't believe it and you think anyone who doesn't share your beliefs is fair game for ridicule. That's a pretty good example of bigotry I think.

Nope. People believe what they believe. Mocking them won't change their minds. Will get the thread closed, though.

I'm not mocking anyone. Just a notion. I'm just using humor to illistrate my point. Never was a clinical sort of person. Just I feel like I'm debating Billy Mays!:D I still love you guys, like a brother!

Because some folks differ in their opinions? I think you're making it something it's not. Biggot is a bit much, don't you think? I'm simply stating my opinion and presenting facts in my discussion about my opinion. That's what these forums are based on. Pure pontification in a gentle sense of the word.... So I thought. If everyone agreed, what a boring place this would be. I already told you, I kid you guys. This has not been hostile in the slightest. Please don't take the ball and go home just because you disagree and fail to get your point across. I'll exit this debate and won't even peek back in here so you guys (believers) can keep your discussion alive, because I feel I already galanized my point beyond exception, since hours have passed without anyone responding. If the humor is gone, or mistaken, I apologize, because I do admire everyones opinion here, irregardless of how unbelievable or obsurd it appears. Take care all. Chris...Out!

Should learn to spell properly if you want to add real validity to your statements. Even spelling bigot wrong even though you are quoting the correct spelling. Or galvanized, or absurd... take care, though.

These topics, whether or not they are about expensive cables and interconnects, break-in, or solid state vs. tubes, are always welcome, as long as the conversations stay respectful.

Folks, there's a world of difference between being rude and hostile, and: "You know, I've listened to speakers when they're new, and after hours of listening, and I can't hear a difference".

If you can understand what point I'm trying to make, then you're welcome to chime in anytime. If not, I would suggest that the best thing you can do is just stay out of these threads.
