Ok, I have these:

They both look like this:

One of the new PS Caps, 40/40/30 seems to have been redone with these brown caps:

Now, the other cap, the 3x40 taller cap I thought was for the outer cap (metallic casing next to a cardboard cased cap)

Underside View:

Now the outer cap has only 2 leads....the inside cap (carboard covered), has 4 leads.

I am confused...

it appears that the black cardboard cylinder is a cap (based on pix of underside). it
has markings (square, triangle, plus maybe 2 more) and the three section metal
can cap next to it seems (needs bigger, clearer pix - perhaps directly over as opposed
to an angle) to only use two of the 3 sections.

where the brown caps are (needs clearer pix), seems to be added in parallel
but with a better pix, it can be determined whether they replace (as you suggest)
or they are added in parallel.

the other unit seems to also have caps added in - so both may be the same
solution. However, someone in both unit's past seem to have "modified" things.
the cardboard cap seems to be differently engineered but could be some
Mark II mod. you can look at the way it's mounted - if there are rivets everywhere
else and this has screws/bolts/nuts then you can probably assume user mod.

your best bet is to get a schematic for both (in case they are different versions)
and to mark it up with each unit's component complement.

Yeah; I use 'Imgur' hosting of late. (no affiliation, just a user) easy code copy and paste and I'm just posting pics here.
