question about my M97xe and the tracking force guide

hi all,

quick question. when using the sure tracking force guide to measure the correct tracking force on my cartridge, should I be measuring it with the stabilizer brush down? I want the cartridge to run with the brush down so i figured i should measure with tracking force with it down right?

G'day mate, yes this can be a little confusing actually. The Shure recommendation with the 'brush' down (how I use it) is 1.75 g. With the 'brush' up, adjust your counterweight for 1.75 g tracking weight at the tip. I don't trust 'counterweight calibrations', I use a tracking weight scale.

Anyway, with the 'brush' ('aka dynamic stabiliser') then down, it 'absorbs' half a gram tracking weight, so effectively the tracking weight at the tip is 1.25 g. If not using the 'brush', readjust the tracking weight to 1.25 g. I hope that makes sense! Regards, Felix aka catman.
