Question about Sansui Upgrade.....

Right now I have a Sansui G-7000 hooked up to a pair of pioneer HPM-100's. Sound is excellent, but like most of us, Im always looking to upgrade and improve. My question is this......I have heard so much about the Sansui 9090 and it has really peaked my interest. Would the sound quality really improve that much if I move up to the 9090? Thanks in advance.....vince

If the sound is already perceived by you as being excellent, then its doubtful to me a 9090 in place of a G-7000 would make a drastic difference. If you want to experience significant differences in sound quality, I think you would hear it more noticeably by changing the speakers instead of the receiver.

In my opinion, the higher end of the G series receivers is superior in design and sound to the 9090. I would stick with the G7000 and maybe look at other speakers, as Fred said. If you like vintage, try to find a pair of AR3 or AR3a's or Dahlquist DQ10's. For new speakers, check out Vandersteens, Theils, Paradigms. If you could find a used pair of DCM Timeframe 700's or Timewindows, they would do very well with that receiver.

Vince- Being that I have posted over 2100 messages on this site, and am busy enough with the emails everyday etc..., its hard to keep track of all the hi fi people I correspond with Online, but I was wondering if my recollection is correct - are you the person that had their G model Sansui repaired at Rockville Centre Hi Fi in Long Island?

If so, then perhaps you recall that Charlie has a 9090DB setup as the main receiver in his shop. I met Charlie recently when I brought my AU-D11 II amp to him. During my chat with him, the subject of 9090 vs G models came up, and I know that Charlie definitely favors the 9090DB line. I was thinking that was the reason why you might have thoughts of getting a 9090 (w/o the complications of the DB switch)

Well, somewhere in the Archived messages in this forum, I had posted my observations regarding the +'s and -'s of some of differences betweem them. Personally, I like them both, and so I found a happy solution to making the decsion between them, and that is, own both :) (I have a 9090DB, 7070, G-7700, and G-5500).

BTW, I wasnt knocking the Pioneer speakers if it mightve sounded like that. I was referring to speakers in general, regardless of brand name.

Well, when I pick up my D11 II from Charlie, hopefully soon, I would be interested to resume the 9090/G model 'debate' with him, if he's in the mood to talk about it.
