Question about speaker isolation

Hey all:

W never dealt with any isolation/decoupling of any speakers and I’m pretty ignorant about it, so please go easy on me…

we live in a 1920s-era apartment in Brooklyn. I have a modest setup in our large dining room. Our downstairs neighbors’ daughter’s bedroom in below our dining room so I’m always trying to be considerate about noise, and we listen to music in the dining room at very moderate levels.

For the past two years I’ve been running a pair of JBL216A speakers in the dining room, on stands with rubber feet under the base. These are nice little speakers, but lacking in various ways. I’m thinking about upgrading and I’ve been checking out some of the smaller tower speakers, like DCM Time Windows, that would have the same footprint as the JBLs on stands.

If I go that route, I would want to put something between the speakers and the hardwood floor to reduce the chance that our music would disturb the downstairs neighbors. Now, this building is very solid and we don’t hear a lot of sound from apartment to apartment, but I want to err on the side of caution. If I put sorbothane feet under the speakers would that do what I want? Any other suggestions?

Yes, I believe sorbothane feet will do the job nicely. Stick with rubber-type feet (not spikes) and you should be good to go.
