Question re Marantz Date Stamps

I've got a question re dating my Marantz 2220B. The date stamp on the chassis says "50 9 26"......I sure as heck know it wasn't made in 1950. Anyone know what year "50" is...or why Marantz used "50" instead of, say, (19)75??? Thanks

Beer, your date could also be January 18, 1974 :D I know the date stamp on my 2275 is 12-26-1975

118 could also be 118th day which would be April 28 1974. 2220b should be later than 1975 (IIRC). But it isn't (no dating jokes?)

(edit) Didn't realize 22xxb were all over the place date-wise.

Mystery Date Pic

Here's a photo of my 2220B date stamped "50 9 26"....I know the 2220B is 1974-77...maybe it's just someone's idea of a joke....???

In addition to the date stamp, my 2275 also has a plant code sticker beside the stamp.

Hmmm Maybe it was built in 2050 and someone brought it back with them in a time machine. :D, Or maybe they are being made again in the future. :scratch2:
 
The subject of this old thread of mine was a Marantz 2220B date stamped inside "50 9 26".

Well, today, I received a Marantz 2220 in a trade; opened it up and inside was a date stamp of "49 65".

Anyone else have a Marantz similarly marked? Does anyone know how to decipher these codes?

And...fwiw, I also I had a Sony STR-7045 date stamped " 51 2 6".....Thanks!

I too have a 2220 with a stamp code I can't figure out. 49.1.08

Still no definitive answer!

However, given what we know, I think we can deduce that +/- one year 49=1973; 50=1974; and 51=1975.

The rationale behind this system however remains a mystery....
 
Picked up a nice little Kenwood KR-3200 receiver today that had a date stamp inside of 48 4 9. Enough! I gotta figure this out!!

Well, thanks to a bicycle parts website I stumbled across, it turns out the two-digit number is based on the Japanese Imperial Calendar (Of course!)

When Hirohito took the throne in 1926 beginning the Showa Era, 1926 became Year 1. The Showa Era lasted until 1989 and a new Emperor.

Thus 48, the 48th year of the Showa Era = 1973.
