Not sure if the name Ellie Greenwich will be familiar to all here, but she wrote a bunch of the big Phil Spector "Wall of Sound" hits that many of us here on AK grew up listening to on the radio, including "Chapel of Love," "Be My Baby," and "Leader of the Pack."

She passed away today, at age 68.

She was one of the best and most successful in an era filled with names. She will have a lasting impact on the history of 60s music!
 
Let's not forget Hanky Panky, Do Wah Diddy Diddy, Then He Kissed Me, Baby I Love You, Today I Met The Boy I'm Gonna Marry, Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), River Deep Mountain High, and I Can Music Music, to name just a few. Ellie and ex-husband Jeff Barry formed one of the most prolific songwriting teams at the famed Brill Building. I'm sure her songs will continue to be played and enjoyed for as long as rock rolls on.
 
I didn't even know that I knew who she was until I read a link last night on another forum. I guess the good news is that she is ensconced in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a songwriter.
 
Ellie was a prolific producer too. Neil Diamond never would've made it without her on the other side of the glass.
 
Sad. She wrote some of my favorite songs. I think Christmas (baby please come home) is one of the best holiday songs, I look forward to hearing it every year. She's dead, Phil's in Prison..one of the Ronettes just died. We're losing many from that era lately. Johhny Carter from the Dells/Flamingos just died, too.

Been looking for more info on her at wikipedia, her own site ... . Broadway show about her songs and life - Leader of the Pack ... awards go on and on ...
