radford woofer

hi everybody,

my wife's oncle gave me a pair of m-180 radford last weekend. what a homerun man! the sound is probably the best i ad the chance to have in my livingroom.only one bug; one woofer has a friction between voice coil and magnet. it's like if the suspension was not align yet with the basket. my big question is; is it best to find a replacement woofer with the right specs for that little sealed box or find someone who will recondition it? is there a big difference in the cost?

i want to keep them for long. tanks

Woofer cone may have sagged a bit.It looks to be a heavy cone.
Try removing the woofer and rotate it 180 degrees and remount it.
Gravity may solve the problem.

Frankwood welcome to AK.

If you could post a photo of the woofer it might be easier to give you some helpful advice.

well, i disasembled the woofer from the box and it seem like it's condition is bad. the cone is paper style with kinda rubber film glued on it and this film began to take off. for the vc problem i discribed yesterday, it seem to be because the suspension is not equal all diameter(some part of it is detached from the basket). so i think the cone is not align right.
like the hole in the box is not round, i would not consider remplacing woofer(should complicated like the box is no more wide to cut a round hole).
so, do you think there is something to do with that wonderfull sounding radford? thank a lot

Please take some pictures of the speaker baffle mounting area, and front and back pictures of the woofer, including any identifying labels or lettering.

There are a number of shops which have rebuilt woofers and drivers so they can be usable again. You may have to consider that if you aren't comfortable with troubleshooting problems with the woofer or system.

well, i finally shipped my woofers to a "recone specialist". don't know how much it's gonna cost but i really whanna save those special radfords. did you ever seen a speaker suspension that seems to be one piece whit the cone wrap? my woofer's cone are like paper whit a rubber wrapping and that rubber prolonged to the basket. strange!
one question; if my speakers are not fixable what to put instead those?

woofer are 10" 8 ohms, fs 30hz, F-Responce 20-1khz, in a 1.5 foot cube closed box full of damping.

the drivers the o/p is the radford bd25/8 and look like this.

More than likely any available Radford woofers will have the same issues.

Don't scrap them the drivers do come up on eBay every once in awhile. Like much said get the drivers back and also join the yahoo site.good luck.fwiw it seems that Radford shipped the drivers to Montreal and contracted a cabinet maker here to make the cabinets as it was cheaper than sending complete speakers overseas.my 2 PRS of studio s90 iirc show Montreal as mfg.
