Rambler DD turntable late 70s/early 80s-worth getting?

Hi, just went to a guy's house today doing a followup on a paper ad for assorted hifi bits. One thing he had rigged up ready to show off was a Rambler direct drive turntable. Build wise I'd best compare it to some of the very late 70s Sony PS series DD units and Technics SL1200s. Any thoughts on a fair price to offer-I suspect he's going to want nothing less than $120US(about $140 aussie)??
