Can you tell me if these parameters are good for an amplifier?

Output Power 120 W RMS

Power Bandwidth (D) 20 - 20k Hz, 0.5% THD; (T) 50 - 20k Hz, 0.5% THD

Frequency Response (D) 20 - 20k Hz, ±1 dB; (T) 20 - 15k Hz, ±1 dB; (T) 20 - 20k Hz, +1 dB / -3 dB

Total Harmonic Distortion 0.02% at 1k Hz, rated output (Full load)

Power Consumption 180 W

Weight 25.1 lbs (11.4 kg)

rate of change of volts per microsecond. and oh yeah, it specs out pretty good, digi or analog. what is it?

Thanks for the tips on what slew rate is guys. I read the link you posted as well, very informative. I asked the guy what the slew rate was and he said that he'll let me know by tomorrow. Taps foot, waits. Darn math :whip:

Power Bandwidth is usually expressed in terms like: 5 to 100k Hz +/- 3 Db.

What does (D) –vs. - (T) mean?

By today’s standards the distortion performance is mediocre.

The efficiency if correct is good, that’s assuming it’s a monaural amp. If it’s a stereo amp its impossible.

Also 25 lbs. for a digital amp is rather heavy for 1 channel @ 120 watts.

I suspect that the D and T represent directly into the main or through the tone controls.

"the distortion performance is mediocre"

Is it a dirty sounding amp then?

Not necessarily; but many modern designs easily surpass those distortion specs.

Is it technically possible to actually hear the difference between a more modern design than this one as far as the distortion ratings in your opinion?

It’s my subjective opinion that on a good system one can hear differences between amps. To prove it technically would require blind testing with matched levels etc.

I think that from the freq response, it looks like that amp will have some rolloff on the high end. Many vintage amps will exceed that freq response on the high end by quite a lot.

I also think that amplifiers sound very different.

Would this amp be best as a subwoofer amp only then?

I would think that you need a bit more than 100w for a sub, just IMO. But if it has a high enough damping factor (that was not stated in the OP, and I find that high damping factor is good for controlling woofers), then by all means try it.

Depends on what you are using it for :D

I have used 2000w on a sub, and it was not enough for the PA that I was running, but, I know that Audio Pro, a Dainish or Swedish outfit uses about 80w and their subs get rave reviews...I am thinking of getting one for myself.

If it doesn't set you back much, give it a shot and see what you think!

Also, telling us exactly what amp you are looking at would help in giving you reccomendations

I am going to check out audio pro, what do you think of these subs?

It's neither impossible or possible, because we don't know what output power is specified for 180W of input power. Very seldom is the input power/power consumption spec listed at full output power for consumer gear.

25lbs may not be too unusual for 120wpc Class D amp if it has a conventional (non-switching) power supply.
