Re-dying grill cloth?

I picked up a pair of advent Maestros with used to have brown grill cloth. The grill itself is in nice shape , but its badly faded.

Has anyone tried re-dying the cloth? I'm wondering if its something that can simply be done.

Or should I just replace the grill cloth?

There are spray-on fabric dyes available that some people here have tried and reported good results with them. If the cloth is removeable, or the frame is not water-sensitive, then you could "cook" dye it (Rit fabric dye), but that is a little messier and more time-consuming. Since brown is a fairly basic color for speaker cloth that is available new, you could also just replace it. If you concerned about authenticity, maybe try the dye first, and if you don't like the results, then replace it, or if you just want the things to look nice, just replace it, as you know the result will be visually satisfactory.

Thanks for the advice! I'll have to see if I can find some spray-like dye

These were badly water stained before I used the spray stuff from the auto parts store. Not bad looking considering.

Seems to me most speaker fabric is synthetic fibres so isn't likely to dye very well in an immersion bath. Spray-on is likely your best bet.
