Hey Folks, Got this some time ago, I finally gave it some attention - cleaned it and deoxed the pots and switches.
This unit is not a very powerful unit, but it actually sound pretty good. I would guess it is in the 20wpc range. I bought it at a gw - kind of a curiosity buy.

What I can tell you is that it uses alps pots, and rubicon caps. There are two ic chips inside so this had to be made right at the end of the 70's or early 80's.

Just thought I'd share an interesting piece of history.

Oh wow! I didnt know Readers Digest made stereo equipment. I thought they were just a...well, Readers Digest.

In addition to their monthly journals and hardbound condensed books, Readers Digest offered records, tapes, radios, compact stereos,
a few component pieces and speakers!

Makes one wonder what the story is behind it. Does have a plesant look to it and can see why you picked it up.

Man, you learn something new every day. I was a kid back in the 70's, so i wasnt paying attention. lol

I have that same exact tuner, and although I never took it apart to see how many gang tuner it has, it pulls in some stations my Pioneer TX-7800 can't.

Both pieces resemble early 1970s Kenwood equipment ('specially the tuner)... are they Japanese made or elsewhere?

These were made in japan. The amp sounds good. In fact I was suprised at how good it sounds. Not even close to the sx-1250, I think I would put them on order with my pioneer sx-650, maybe a little less power though.
The tuner works fine, I am not a real heavy tuner user so I can't comment on it's abilities past that.

I saw it and it was marked $20 for the set, but half price day came and I went and got them.

My dad is a Reader Digest NUT....the man has to have every issue from 1980ish on.....I HAVE to find a set of these for him!!!

Classic Cricket. I say gut the amp and put a 100W per channel Tripath amp in it. Then you could shock and amaze your friends with the little Readers Digest unit!

classic cricket says, cheap cheap:yes:

BTW - this one already has a new home. Your shelf space is safe for the moment.
