Reading the Meters

Hello AK members. I'm new here and love what I've read and seen in the Mcintosh Audio Forum.
My question is, I have 2 MC7200's both in mono to two Focal/JmLab Chorus 814v Floorspeakers. The Meters on my Amps read: .002-.02-.2-20-200-500 Is this scale only if you show the amp an 8ohm load (Stereo)which it's rated at 200watts? The Amp will produce 300watts (Stereo) with a 4ohm load. I have them in mono which they produce 600watts. If my Meter is showing 20 watts while playing music do I muliply that by 3 so really I'm pushing 60 watts?

Hope my question isn't to confusing.
Thank You

Welcome, it is a good group here.
Sorry, I am stumpted on this one. There are some out there who are running stereo amps in mono who will be able to answer.

I have always thought that McIntosh meters were true "watt" meters. Another words measuring true current and voltage and displaying watts at whatever the load is. :scratch2:

I have read about this somewhere and can't remember.
The only thing my manual says is: "Reading from right to left, the marks between the numbers indicating watts are (from the indicated 200 watts): first mark, 80 watts, second, 40 watts, the indicated 20 watts, etc...." (It doesn't actually say etc..) So what it's saying is, and going from what you said too, With an 8ohm load the meters will be exact. At a 4 ohm load the meters will be double, and at an 8ohm mono load they are triple?

It says at an 4 ohm load it does 300watts so it wouldn't be exactly double I wouldn't guess.

Great! Thanks a lot for the info. I'll look at the PDF and see what I can figure out. If worst case I can call Chuck Hinton. It would good to know at least. I like to learn as much as I can about the details of my Mac. There such great pieces.....like living room Or home theater) art that's extremly funtional!, I love them.

Thank you.
