Realistic LAB 440 headshell

This is the headshell on my Realistic LAB-440 turntable

It has a 7 pin connector on the back.

I'd like to get another headshell for this turntable and there seem to be 7 pin generic headshells for "most Japanese turntables" that looks like this:

I'm thinking the first one would be the best. I've compared other headshells to the stock and they were always shorter, so I'm thinking the longer one would be better. You could compare the original to the measurements for the second head shell you linked.

I got out my caliper and compared my headshell to the one in the measurements, and they're not even close in measurement. But I'm wondering if they need to be. As long as the catridge aligns on an arc protractor printed from templategen.exe, I should have the proper overhang and alignment.

As much as I think this LAB-440 is a very nice player, things like this make me question whether I should have just bought a Technics of some kind that has more available parts for it. But I love the look of the wood veneer plinth on this more than I love the silver look of most Technics turntables.

Exactly. Some of this style of headshell are longer to allow for more adjustment distance to accommodate different headshell designs. In the end it only matters if your stylus ends up being in the correct position for alignment. But yes, a tonearm that accepts the standard "SME" design headshell makes life more easier if you are wanting multiple headshell/carts.
