I picked up this MOTL Realistic STA 95 from an estate sale today along with some Utah HS1-C's (?). Price seemed reasonable at $25 bones for the receiver and $20 for the Utahs.

Anyway, I spent some time this evening giving the receiver a lick and a promise and it cleaned up real nice imho.:thmbsp:

I thought I'd share some before and after pics with ya as I sure enjoy looking at other members pics of the same.

And here we go, the before...

Looks a lot like the gear I get before cleaning.
I like the face on that model, has a nice classic receiver look.

And just a couple more...

The STA 95 is a very classy looking receiver. I have one I picked up a year ago. Had some tuner problems but that's been addressed.

Although far from the most powerful Realistic at 45 watts x 2, it's one of the best looking mid-level pieces I've ever seen from the Shack. And it sounds OK too. I plan to hook this to some Nova 7Bs (from an AK member) and get a nice LAB TT in order to put together a vintage '70s Realistic system.

Great job on the clean-up. What did you use?

Enjoy!

I've been listening to it with some Utahs. It sounds very nice. No static in any of the controls. I thought I might flip it but I think I'm going pass it to my son as he really likes it.

The big surprise has been the Utah speakers, but that's for another thread.

The immediate predecessor to the STA-960, of which I am a former owner. I think these are some of the classiest looking receivers ever. Congratulations on yours.

man you did a good job, what do you guys use to clean up that silver so well, and what about the cab, thanks, Roost

man I had one of those and gave it to a buddy of mine...lookin at yours again makes me want to look for another...I love realistic gear...:music:

I just picked one up, but it has a few bulbs out, one small knob missing, and... The original owner had etched his name and ss# into the FRONT FACE right above the FM display!!! I had to dremel pretty deep and now it has an ugly scar across the top from 98FM to 106FM on the silver. Grrrrrrr...

I feel your pain. I have the STA-95 and I think it is going back in the main system again soon, replacing my Yamaha CR-820. It really is a very attractive piece and I like the performance too.

I found one in really good external condition just sitting around in a friends barn. I took it home and started playing it... It worked to an extent. Eventually the whole thing stopped after a couple of weeks, so now I'm in the process of repair, armed with a 4 dollar harbor freight multimeter and google. I opened it up and found a bulb missing, replaced it, and then today I checked the two large capacitors and they're both kaput. My plan is to replace them, and if that doesn't work, I'm just going to go through every one of the capacitors till it's fixed. Looking back, I probably should have cleaned it after I took it home.
