I prioritise power supply, then tone circuit. Electrolytics only. If I really like the piece I might trade some mylers or ceramics for polystyrenes in the signal path, especially the phono stage. It seems most people prefer to leave the tuner circuit alone, but I just can't help myself.
I use the best available electrolytics as they are all affordable. In most cases this seems to be Panasonic FM and FC. In the signal path I splurge and put Elna Silmics. But it is a labor of love for me.
There is a lot of controversy over what needs to be changed and vs authenticity of original tone with good points to be made by many on both sides. I just do it all because I doubt that I will ever have the time to do a real side by side, blind and so forth, and I find that changeing out caps is very relaxing work.
Put on some good vinyl and become one with the soldering iron.
