Recent Notable Album Art

It seems that people think that the era of imaginative album art is over, but outside of popular music, it's as alive as ever. I'll start it off with one of my favorite examples, and others may follow suit. Too bad a lot of these are shrunk down to CD size. Luckily, many of my favorite artists still regularly release vinyl, so that feeds my desire for album art. I'll start it off with the Flaming Lips newest release: "At War With the Mystics".

Imaginative album art isn't dead, but it sure is a shame so much of it is only available on CD sized bits of card :thumbsdn:

I'm fond of the cover of the new Tom Petty release. I've got this in its full vinyl glory.

Vellum is making a splash. Here are a couple vellum(kinda like rice paper) covers that have been very nice. Especially the Pelican w/ the under cover.

Guided By Voices - Propeller (on vinyl)

In the early 90s, GBV's self-issued album Propeller was released in a batch of 500 copies. Each copy features a unique, handmade cover art & insert schemes where the cover art is drawn, painted, silkscreened, has pictures and/or found objects pasted onto the material, and so on. The band, their families & friends designed and fabricated these covers and, in certain instances, signed their work. I've seen about a dozen or so of these since 1995. A few examples below. BTW, I also really like the cover art for the Neutral Milk Hotel LP.

I've already posted my favorite classical cover under the music thread but here's another version.

I hate to admit aspiring to being a "stage door Johnny: but I've had a crush on Anne-Sophie Mutter since I first heard her play and saw her photo.

Kid A is a masterpiece. If you have one of the first few thousand CDs printed (like me!) you may notice that the jewel case is a bit heavy... peel the back of the case open and there is a hidden lyrics books done in the same style as the cover art.
