Recommend a Teac deck, please.

I have a Teac A3440, which I will likely keep.

I'd like a deck that has the following characteristics:

1. speeds of 3.75 and 7.5 IPS as a minimum;
2. autoreverse;
3. 10.5" reel capacity.

I'd like to know what best Teac deck that has these characteristics.

The Teac A-6300 is a great older deck from the seventies. The X-1000R, X2000R are newer decks but still highly regarded. I've owned both. The A-6300, I think, is more solid(tank type build). The later decks have more bells and whistles.

As being a x2000 owner - i'd say go for a X2000r.

When maintained properly it is one heck of a deck.

As many other decks it can get troublesome, but most parts are still available

(X2000 is the non-reversing version)

Agree. I have an A-6010. Tank-like. Auto-reverse (PB) w/sensing signal - makes it real convenient!

And I have an X-2000R. With glass heads, dbx, and at 7.5 ips, it makes really wonderful music! I love my Pioneers big time, but sonically, I haven't heard much to best the X-2000R.
 
Didn't know about the A-6010, but looks pretty nice. I also have an X-2000R, but sold my A-6300. One nice feature that the newer X series decks have is that they will record in both directions.
 
I would also recommend the A-6300 for what you mentioned your basic needs were.

I dont know what your budget is but this machine in excellent condition might not be much less than the big X series units - if you are willing to spend "whatever" you might want to take a hard look the X-1000R, or X-2000R but there isn't much difference in those two machines except pay more for the 2000 model. If you prefer the more professional half-track and 15ips then its the 2000M and that machine might be consideralby more, I cant vouch for that - I dont know how much in demand they really are but the master recorders were generally more expensive in the Teac line.
 
Id say a 6300, but you say you have a 3440, what is the problem with that unit, the fact that it doesn't play 3 3/4? Otherwise Id suggest a 3440, lol.

The A-6300 would be my choice if I absolutely had to have auto-reverse. If you can do without auto-reverse then I'd recommend the simple, reliable and rock solid A-3300SX (1/4 track stereo version). That will do the lower 3.75 speed and is a fantastic performer for a home use machine.

I have an A-6300 and it's a great machine but I almost never use the auto-reverse function on it and I wouldn't miss it if the machine didn't have that option.

Yes, like most things, it's perfect, but...
...no reverse play, and no 3.75 ips.

The A-3300SR does have autoreverse. You can sometimes pick these 3300 units for less than $50. And they'll probably outlast us!

True, but I usually stay away from that model because I don't care for the single four track playback head being used for forward and reverse playback. I have had A-2300SR machines a well as an A-3300SR and they had much more crosstalk than I find acceptable (regardless of alignment and with almost no wear on the heads). I much prefer a dedicated head for reverse playback - four heads are better than three for auto reverse IMO. Or better yet, no auto-reverse! :D

It beats the X line machines which are much more prone to needing repairs though. And those $150 DC capstan motors which are barely capable of pulling a 7" reel and belonged in cassette decks only.
