Recone-a-thon!!

Today, I was the Recone King. Helping out some friends at the local PA repair shop, with a tremendous backlog.

Reconed today, by me:

2 JBL 2240 18" woofers,

4 JBL 2118 8" woofers, including replacing broken terminals on ALL 4 drivers,

a surround-repair on a pair of Sansui 15" drivers,

initial exploratory surgery on a pair of CV 10" woofers (determined that they will need parts ordered for recone) and a pair of Madisound 1054 10 woofers (same as the CVs). Ran for TOO LONG with bad surrounds, killed the voice coils... let that be a lesson...

and finally, a recone on a Celestion 15" PA woofer, with dual-spiders (first dual-spider driver I reconed!). The parts people sent the wrong cone for the Celestion, but thanks to the pack-rat nature of the shop people (I love 'em, my kind of people! :thmbsp: ), I actually FOUND the correct-type cone in a stash of extra cones on a shelf in the back of the shop. Can't stop me, I'm on a roll!!

13 drivers worked on, in some way, shape or form... whew, that's a good day's work...

Regards,
Gordon.

Sounds like a lot of fun, but is it a living? :naughty:

That sounds like a lot of work! Congrats. on getting them done.

That makes me think of a question though. Many here have done the re-foaming here (I have probably done about 50 or so) but you don't see to many reconing jobs.

How easy/hard is it to do the reconing? Do you need any tools, training, etc.?

I've done a new do-or-die cobbles, and did my first with an actual new cone not too long ago. Not too hard, as it already had a surround.

Gordon,
Can you recone JBL 126A's? I have one from a jubal. The voice coil and cone is good, the spider came apart from the cone, and was reglued. it is not aligned properly.

What do you think?

Should be no problem. Cone and voice coil are the only critical parts to save. I've got the right spiders, surrounds and dustcaps.

PM me, I'll take care of it...

Gordon.
