I volunteered to transfer a recording from an LP to CD for a friend. Before I play this thing, I want to clean it but don't want to destroy it in the process. Since some cleaners are incompatible with some types of materials (think acetate recordings), I need to know what it is before I put solvents on it.
The record a 12" disc but doesn't feel like vinyl. It is very stiff and almost rings when it is tapped. Sounds like a very hard plastic of some kind. It is not a mass produced record. Probably the only existing copy of the recording (it's a wedding). The original recording was on cassette(?) tape which was then transfered to the record by Dick McGrew Recording Service in Dallas, TX, sometime maybe in the early to mid seventies.
What type of material might a record like this have been made from?
