reel to reel remote control plug

Hello,

Recently I acquired Teac 40-4 reel to reel deck. This deck has rectangular 12-pin Remote Control jack on the back, but the remote plug is missing and I have no remote control.

I am wonder if this deck should operate without the plug? Of this plug a must?
If yes, where to get this plug or remote control (I believe it’s Teac RC-170 model).

These remotes were optional accessories. The deck should operate with nothing in the jack.
