Removing Wires from Plastic Connector Plugs?

Hi All,

I am currently rebuilding a Marantz 140 power amp and I am looking at upgrading some of the wiring between the power supply and amp boards. I have come across a problem in that I cannot seem to be able to remove the wires (and metal connector) from the plastic plugs.

Do any AK’er have a trick to push the plastic tab back and remove the metal connector?

Your assistance this would be greatly appreciated,

Usually simply a tab that locks the connector into the plug housing. There are tools to deal with extracting and inserting all kinds from round pins to flat connectors. Digi-key has a lot as does Ebay. Sometimes a straight pin or a tiny eye-glass screwdriver will work. Good luck.
 
If the wire is broken or burnt, then you'll need an extractor to get the pin out...otherwise you're going to a lot of trouble for little-to-no gain.

Not only that, but re-using the pin is problematic. I don't see a way to do this neatly.
 
a tiny screwdriver usually works, they use to have tabs that you can push with the screwdriver. But as stated, too much trouble for very little gain... I'd cut the wires and get new connectors.

You have provided me with plenty of leads and things to think about. As EchoWars says I could be getting into a lot of trouble for virtually no gain. But hey, I enjoy this hobby and at times the challenges it throw up and that where this forum site is such a valuable asset to my hobby.

I have investigated the connectors a little more and they are SMK 5 & 17 connectors. And its proving very difficult to find a replacement connector that would fit. Because I was thinking if I can get a new connector I would just cut the wires and add the new wires to the new connector.

So my thoughts are now moving to placing single connector on each wire, so I am now trying to find a suitable single connector, I can find connectors that are designed to go into plastic connectors, but not stand alone single connectors, does any one have a source out there for these?
The SMK 17 & SMK 5 pins are all 1.5mm diameter.

Once again any assistance will greatly appreciated.
