replacement for JRC4560D op amp

Is the Motorola LM358 up to the task?

I've replaced 2 mc4560 with LM358, since it was the only choice down here, but I wanted to know how good/bad they are....

Is this going to turn into a "NE5532 is as good as any" thread? :D

Not from me... I've never been fond of 5532's.

(But not because they sound harsh or glassy or constricted or distant or etched or dull or sparkly or dazed or confused or depressed or sleepy or hungry or over-excited or tuneful or sloppy or static or slow or medium or fast or non-causal or stressed-out or strung-out or lazy or horny or tube-like or sand-like or socialist or juvenile or sophisticated or naïve or other-worldly or vintage. Since that is all the job of the designer....)

You left out fuzzy, buzzy, slewey, hewey, dewey and lewey.

Don't quit your day job. :D

May I add one question, related to the Original Question, a JRC4560 replacement?

Given the supply voltage is OK, wich ones would you pick from this list?

I can get only this locally... No 4560 available down here. And the 2 units I've fixed last months, had 4650 OP amps inside.

I'm currently using the LM358, basically because the price, but I'd like to have another options...

thanks all for the advice and comments. I bought /plugged in a 4560DD and it did make a positive difference without changing the "non cd" tone that I always liked about the dx5 to begin with.
FYI, before installing the 4560DD, I put a about 30 more hours on the dbx dx5 recaps, including the three dbx sound processors and the horn problem has disappeared..... sound is now pretty darn good. Not sure if I'll play any further with op amps on it.

On the other hand, as pointed out in the ratings detailed at the second of those links, the "outdated" LM833 op amps used on the outputs in many older Philips/Magnavox Cd players can be effectively replaced with, for instance, the LM 4562/LME49860/LME49720 family to good effect.

since they are so inexpensive, I decided to try two additional op amps in the recapped dbx dx5: a OPA2134 and a OPA2604... the 2604 did not work well at all for some reason, the highs just seemed to disappear. But the 2134 turned out to be a great match and even better than the DD.... the 2134 really added to the articulation and the sound stage, without changing the player sound that I like so much.... I know that there is some controversy regarding op amp burn in, so in my case it may have been the new caps burning in further, but per my ears (many hours of listening) and a few of my audio friends.... the 2134 and the new caps combination is another step up in the sound quality of the DX5... Maybe it shouldn't work, but this combo does indeed work very, very well...making an already good player even better. I'm going to try a dual OPA 627 next.... risking another $20 lol
