Replacement Motor for my AR XB Turntable

Hello all, I have an AR XB that I am told needs a new motor....is the XA motor the same XB? Which is the most suitable replacement/closest to the original?

I had the vinyl veneer on my XB replaced with wood and when the TT was returned, the table won't spin. It was working fine before. Now, when you take off the heavy platter it spins, but when the platter is on it does not. ???? Thanks!!

Is the platter rubbing against the wood?

Edit: Silly me, I'm guessing you mean the veneer on the outer edges of the plinth. If so, disregard my question.
 
Yes, the single XA motor is the same Haydon motor as the XB, but you can also use the Hurst 3001-001 motor that came in the later 80’s table.
 
That sir, would be an ideal T/T to upgrade with a DC motor & separate motor pod with a Mylar belt. Then you would know you have an upgrade.

I did it to my dead Technics SP15

Thanks, are the right Hayden motors still available and which one? Sorry...noobie here.....
 
I'd try to figure out why the motor stopped working after the trip to the veneer guy before putting in a new motor. If it works fine without the platter, there has to be something that's physically preventing it from running with the platter on. Can you spin the platter by hand?
 
Our late and very Great Marc Morin had a procedure for lubricating and cleaning the motor. It fixed a lot of so called bad motors. I’d try that before spending money on a new motor.

Are you certain that you need a new motor. I still have to wonder if you have a loose/slipping belt, like I posted earlier; or, perhaps your motor needs cleaned and lubed as suggested by others.

Sorry, I screwed-up the quote, but still suspect belt is issue.

I don't remember what Marc's procedure was, but usually with small motor like that, a drop of oil on the shaft and getting it spinning usually snaps them back to life.

Also as 4300 mentioned could there be something physically causing it to not spin when placing the outer platter on it. Pictures would help, course they would help only if they show something!
Maybe something at the lip that catches when the outer platter is in place and have to wonder why it worked before but doesn't now.
Motors can be opened up and cleaned out. Good friend Marc Morin showed StuartB and I how he rebuilt them.
