Replacing belt??

I am looking at a Marantz tape deck. The guy says it needs a new belt. Is this something I could tackle myself. Mind you I have never even had a piece of equipment open. If taken to a tech would they charge me to a point where the cost of repair would negate my deal?? Thanks.

It does not look complex but if you cannot do this type of work maybe a friend could look over your shoulder. You are right. A repair center may charge you more than you even paid but it really depends on how much you like the deck. Just looking at that unit I imagine it to be straight forward. Maybe someone here knows exactly how hard it will be.

This unit takes a few belts, does require a bit of skill but can be done by just taking your time. I might have some pictures of when I did mine to post for you.

It's a great deck, enjoy it.
