Requesting subwoofer suggestions (up to $200)

Hello. I've never had or owned a subwoofer and would like to add one to my setup. Having never owned one, I have no idea what I should be in the market for. My budget is $200 and from what I've read in some other threads, I realize this will limit the quality of options available.

Please advise me! :thmbsp:

Room: 15' X 17'

Receiver: Marantz SR5600 (7.1 channel)

Speakers: Marantz HD660 (2) JBL J216A (2) JBL J216 (center)
Also have a pair of Marantz Imperial 5-G speakers sitting here. Haven't hooked them up b/c I don't really have an abundance of available space in the 15' X 17' room.

Turntable: JVC QL-Y3F

CD Changer: Marantz CC4300

Blu-Ray Player: Denon DBP-2010CI

DLP Projector: Infocus IN26

Subwoofer budget: $200 or less

As mentioned, $200 bucks isn't going to get you much of a sub, but Parts Express does carry a Dayton line in that price range, but don't know much about them. Don't confuse these these with their higher end Titanic line, but a whole nother price range too.
 
Used, you will find many out there. Look for brands like JBL, PSB, Cerwin Vega, HSU, Velodyne, SVS, Elemental Designs (out of business), and Dayton. DIY is a good route to go, but by the time you add wood, paint or veneer, driver (10" will do for your room size), plate amp, and accessories, $200.00 is still pushing it. For new, IMO, the best choices are: Dayton Audio SUB-1200 or SUB-1000.

My Family Room is the same size as your room, and I use an 8" sub that performs very well, though you will not get rattling sound. 10" to 12" works better in that room size.

Now I know where to at least begin researching and attempting to educate myself about various models/reviews/prices of the brands you listed.

PR Audio, your info about having the same size room & therefore suggesting a 10" or 12" sub is also helpful.

Used Triad , Triad in room Gold , Triad makes a super nice quality sub-woofer , very correct sounding and powerful. good luck with your 150 choices

in ~45L sealed nets a Qb of .79, an F3 of 44 hz, F10 of about 27hz

gives ~6db boost at 35 hz, which would allow the sub to be flat to ~35hz, and the -3db point to be around 30hz, with the -10db to be closer to 20-22hz

drops the F3 down 5 hz to 39hz, F10 to the mid 20's, and with the 6db bass boost the yung amp gives, should give usable output to 20hz....
