Bad caps! Although I don't own a PR99, I have done my research and they are notorious for bad caps on the logic board. I have an A77 which had bad caps on the relay board (the same controls pre-logic), and I got a fanfare of spinning reels and flying tape. A simple re-cap will get that straitened out, but if you don't have a service manual and aren't handy with a soldering iron, better leave it to a pro. If you want the best, contact JM Technical arts who was the last authorized Revox service center in the US, and he still has a stash of parts. He may not be the cheapest out there, but he knows his ReVox. Perhaps if he can walk you through the removal of the logic boards, you can send him just those rather than the entire machine and risk damage in shipping....not to mention the cost.

Don't be afraid...your ReVox is just letting you know it needs a little love.

I think i'm ok with soldering , also i do have the service manual for it , are these caps normal caps or they are special caps German or Swiss?

I would imagine you just need to get the correct values, but these newer electrolytics can be teeny-tiny - what I have seen on the boards on Pro-video equipment require a micro-tip soldering iron. I have not seen the ReVox boards in question but PR99 is a newer model and could be a challenge.

Revox boards are very easy to swap caps on. Standard design. No surface mounts.

Normal caps. In fact you WANT to replace ALL the gold colored FRAKO caps, and any baby blue philips caps. (The smooth blue ones)

It's worth it. The Frako's tend to short out, and recently I have found a few blue philips caps that also seem to short. I guess they ARE old, after all.

Keep the same values, but ok to go up to the next nearest voltage.

Sorry - but the PR99 (or B77) has not the same control board/logic as the A77

they are very different

Indeed, the A77 is relay logic and loves to snap tapes if you don't press STOP between functions.

The B77/PR99 is solid state logic control and also fixed that annoying little tape problem.

Still, check for bad caps. I seem to ALWAYS find a few.

you mean like going from fast forward wind to play - well, that doesn't only snap tapes, it also creates a huge pile of tape lying to the left side of the deck

been there .... done that .... got the t-shirt :D

I didn't say it was the same, just simply drew the comparison that caps are usually the culprit in all thing whacky with Revox.

Yes, but we just like to argue. :D

Anyway, you are correct. Go change the caps. Even if that doesn't fix it right away, it should be done regardless.

That's BADLY thought out. Even the G36 has interlocks to stop you doing that.

I just want the T-shirt.... Damn! :D

Next time i get one, i'll PM you for your adress :D

just a matter of time, before i pull a stupid stunt again ..... until then enjoy this picture of my brother falling down ... longer arms needed !

Oh.... that could be me. I have been THERE a few times when I rebuilt the engine in my first and second car. FUN!

I have a picture somewhere of my buddy sitting inside the engine bay just scratching his head. Too funny. I was a bit younger then..... Now I just drive the damn things.

I recorded quite a lot of radio on a HiFi Stereo VCR, the source was a digital satellite receiver. I used an RCA-to-scart cable to hook my satellitereceiver to the VCR. By doing this I could also adjust the record level - not on the VCR but via volume control on the satellite receiver.

The sound quality of these sat-to-VCR recordings on my JVC stereo VCR was outstanding.

I agree with the cap replacement, but my PR99mkII did the same thing because some idiot mounted the function controls incorrectly and they where touching the frame (I guess?). When I tried to move the controls with the deck on and plugged in (enter idiot #2=me), I blew a fuse inside....I remounted the control keys correctly onto the frame, replaced the fuse and it worked.
