Oh yup - I have 2 pair of DQ10s, a set of DQ-12s and DQ-8s as well, oh and a pair of rear DQ surround speaks I bought just for sh!ts and giggles and they sound not bad, but not great (rear surrounds), DQ-10s sound VERY good.

Cheers,

Bob

Not an exact fit here...but have owned 10's and 30i's and currently have
20's. The 10's were the most spacious sounding although if you like organ music,
they needed a sub. The 30's sounded great, but were a bit more fussy about
the room and location due to the ported enclosure. The 20's fit right about
in between. They have better bass than the 10's but not as punchy as the
30's. They don't disappear quite as well as the 10's...but close and have that
smooth Dahlquist house sound. Since they are a couple of decades old, I
may recap and replace internal wiring. Great thread!

Cubdog...I live just north of Rockford, not too far away.
Hibuck...

OK I'll sign on to the DQ-10 user's list. I have mirror-imaged mine, done a cap upgrade, and added a little felt to some baffle areas. Mostly I drive them with my Audio Research Dual 76; or when I want more power, my Sumo Andromeda. Marantz 7c does the preamp duties. My room is 12 x 22. I use the DQ-10s spaced about 6 feet apart (so about 8 and 1/2 feet on centers). I sit about 10 feet back with the speakers toed in a bit. For me, they image best with the tweeters outboard and the mids inboard. I use 12 gauge speaker wire of no particular proud ancestry. It's turning green, as I've had it close to 30 years! One last thing: I disconnected the Piezos--not that I could hear them, but visitors objected to them. They say KEF T-27's make better super-tweeters. I have a pair. Think I should hook them up?

I have 5 DQ-10's thought they would be good as a 5.1 setup...
I have had them stacked and recently got the DQ subs waiting on
the Dynaco ST-410 rebuilds to hook them up

Roll call, DQ-10 owners

I have a set of stacked, mirror imaged DQ-10's. I replaced the woofers with JBL's. I drive them using an older Nikko 6060 receiver as the pre-amp and then out through a QSC RMX-1850HD amp. I have to be carefull running them with too much volume/power as the big resistors on the crossover boards tend to get very hot. I am extremely happy with the look and sound.

Newbie to DQ-10's

I acquired a pair of DQ-10's in December. I hooked them up for the first time today. Testing with an old Fisher 4035 Quad amp that was nearby just to see if they work. One speaker sounded good. The other barely any sound. No mid, no bass and barely a whisper from the high end. Also, they need new cloth, the back grill on the "bad" speaker had been dented in.

Being new to this I have some observations that may seem naive, but, what the hey! I noticed the "coils" in the back, one is wrapped with copper wire, the other green. Oxidation?

Also, any suggestions for repair in the Southern NY, Northern NJ area at a fair price? Any thoughts about the Regnar kits or restoration services? I'm limited budget wise right now and wonder if I should move ahead. Would probably run these, eventually, with something like my Sansui 1000a (also in need of some tubes and tlc) or a HK A300 (haven't run this much yet. need some advice regarding a tune up following a long sleep. But that's another post) tube amp

Or, should I scrap the whole idea and buy the whole room of thrusters I saw at the SA recently and build a wall...

I'll open these up soon to look at the foam and report back any findings.

On another note. This is only my third post here. However, I love reading these posts and have spent hours enjoying the site. Thanks to all for the info.

Welcome to AK. I can't suggest any repair facilities but as you can see from this thread DQ10s are held in high reguard. I wouldn't be hasty untill you can gather information on what needs to be done yours. Good luck.

i have had mine now for about three or four months i think, i picked up mine for a bargain price of a 100 dollars which was money well spent IMO, i bought mine from the relative of the original owner, who had them in storage for aprx the last 20 years of their aprx 30 year life, so mine were in pretty much pristine condition, the only issue with mine were the original woofers need re foamed, but i had recently re foamed two pairs of large advents i had inherited from my father inlaw, so one pair of woofers out those are filling in till i take some time and re foam the originals.

i am still blown away with the imaging and sound quality these produce with just about any kind of music i play threw them, i am currently powering mine with a 200 watt per channel mosfet Sherrwood AM-7040 SS amp, and a Nad 1130 pre amp, i supplement the base with a Velodyne ULD-15 sub which complements then very nicely, i am hoping to upgrade to a little better quality pre amp at some point, but i am content for now with my current setup.

Seems as if we have some new DQ-10 owners aboard. Chime in if you haven't yet done so. Pictures are always welcomed.

I have had mine for about 6 months now and love them. Just added a Yamaha M-85 to add a little breathing room!

DQ-10 Roll Call

Ive got a pair of mirror imaged 10's with burgundy grills. Running them with a Dynaco ST-400 amp, PAT-5BiFet preamp and M&K Sub. They could probably benefit from recapping Xovers. I also have a pair of DQ-20i which are quite nice and more practical. They are more efficient and have better bass than the 10s. Not quite the magic of the 10s though!

That's the way I feel when comparing my 10s to my 30is. I like both speakers alot but the 10s have a special quality I can't quite describe.

I'm back down to one pair (was gonna stack them) and the passive sub with an NHT xo. I hope to hook them back up soon.

I gave my set to my son, he lives two doors down. He was flabbergasted when I pulled them out of the closet and said here, want these? Took about a two picoseconds for the answer. He is 40 BTW.

I have had my pair of DQ10 for about 3 years you dont often see them up for sale in the UK very often. The crossovers have been rebuilt mostly with Kimber caps and Chord cabling but now I need a new pair of bass units the originals being "lost"while being redone. Can anybody help as it is hard to get spare parts over here?

In the category of worst audio decision in the last 10 years was the decision to sell those DQ-10s that I traded a bunch of receivers for. Along came a really beat up MC-240 on loan and audio bliss had come to my house. Nat King Cole was actually singing a few feet away in the living room. Friend said speaker's impedance matched the amps output which caused that sonic reality. Anyway, been looking for 3 years here in Hawaii with no luck. Take care of your's and find that right amp!

Wow, old thread.

Rescued some 10s last summer, got some 20s free the summer before.
Early post asked for nudes, here's mine the day of the rescue. I got them cleaned up and refoamed the woofers. I swapped out the mids for some philips and refoamed the originals (just haven't gotten them back in yet). Working on placement and WAF in the "theater room". SO far, the image was the bast out in the garage with the little Kenwood (!!?!???!!!!) but I'm having success with a Marantz 4415 I just cleaned up. They say they like power, getting WAF on a SPEC rack is on the to-do list.
