I have a rotel 1603 everything works on the receiver. You can tell there is a lot of power in this unit. But the sound from it is harsh. Any suggestions what can be wrong. It is the receiver because I have other receivers to hook into my system and the others sound warm and rich. Thanks Dale.

Klipsch rf-7 speakers. Maybe a little distotion when volume is increased. Just doesn't sound right compared to my pioneer sx-1280. The rotel is very fatiguing to listen to. But is very nice to look at. I have heard the rotel is very warm and rich and tube like quality sound. Not the case with my rotel 1603. Basically all sources vinyl, cassette deck nak dragon and cd's.

The idle current in the output stage may need to be adjusted. Put your hand on the heatsinks after it's been on for an hour. If there is mare than one heatsink, is one cold? both cold? Listen to one channel at a time. Are they both harsh?

Receiver is out of system right now but will check heatsinks when I get a chance. And yes both channels are harsh sounding. For previous question room is approx. 20 X 35 and has a couple windows in it. Room is open floor plan living room and kitchen with island. and I did mention other receivers sound very good in this space except the rotel 1603. I also tried a pair of bose 901 series VI with equipment and had same results.

:music::music::beerchug:Just hooked my Rotel 1603 back up after having it serviced. The receiver needed a new speaker relay and cleaning. This was done by a local tech from Play It Again Sam in Lakewood Ohio. I learned about this place from Audiogkarma. The receiver sounds fantastic. The receiver is a keeper. Very Happy

Good to hear! My experience with older Rotel gear is limited to the RX-403 I picked up a few months ago, but it is that of a very good sounding unit, even if not close to TOTL for this lineup. I suspected the harshness you described was caused by something amiss and definitively not a characteristic of the Rotel sound.

Enjoy that fine piece of audio!
