RT909 Belts needed

Hi Guys,
Discovered your forum yesterday and its taken me 10 minutes to find out how to ask my first question. I think I've searched all around the forum for other threads but as I'm new to this whole concept forgive me if I've missed an obvious link. I've owned my RT909 for 20+ years from new and to my knowledge they were never actually imported over here to England - don't ask !! Anyway after all too many years in storage I've decided to give her an airing. Not suprisingly - lots of irratic tape speeds and dreadfull distortion. I'm guessing stretched and mis-shapen belts. There doesn't appear to be anyone in England that can help and because they still seem to be popular with you guys I'm hoping someone can help with a contact and maybe the way to go about changing them.
I await your replies with eager anticipation. Thanks in advance.

Yes, indeed the belts are available. While you are at it, check the condition of the pinch rollers. Lastly, when you DO replace the belt, do not loose the 2 little balls in the end of the capstans. They often fall out while removing the back plate to remove the belt.

I dis-member right now WHO sells the belts, but someone will certainly add that info to this thread.

Welcome to our tape world Steebo, glad you found us. Good advice from the Tinman, so let the Strawman point you further in the right direction. :D
Check with Wjoe, he's a site sponser, and can fill all of your Pioneer belt & tire needs. I've purchased kits from him in the past, and they're a breeze to install.
Best,

Steve

Hi Guys, thanks for the links. I'm guessing you would have heard my jaw hitting the table when I saw the last one. Wow!! It's making me wonder if it's more than just a belt problem. Incidently there only seems to be one belt getting a mention. The main drive belt !! Is that all there is ?

Yep, only one belt. Just make sure you install it correctly. The motor goes back in from the top down on the belt.

As for other problems.... most old reel to reels need a certain amount of service now. Grease dries up, heads wear, capacitors get old. But I wouldn't worry about that till you get it running and see what shape it's really in.

Thanks for that Tinman, I'm really gobsmacked at the speed and willingness of so many to offer help .

I've just noticed you're in LA. We've just last week booked our tickets for our second visit to your fine city. We've got friends that live in Santa Monica that I guess we contact via webcam every week. Really looking forward to the trip although it's not until Sept.

While I think about it. One reason I am looking to resurrect the 909 is to put several hours of rare footage onto MP3 so that I can enjoy it away from home. The question then is, can I just input it to my computer to sort/convert to MP3 from a straightforward output socket from the 909?

the rt-909 is worthy your time to get it up and running. Congrats on such a fine player! RT-909 service manuals are available.

Run the 909 into your stereo and out from stereo to your computer sound card/griffin imic/ etc. A simple program like "Final Vinyl" or freeware Audacity(sp?) can handle
The rest once inside the 'puter...

Thinking about it thedelihaus the only input to the computer is the microphone jack. And which output from the stereo - headphone ? Sorry to be dim/over cautious but I'm of an age where a momentary wrong connection could blow the lot.
