RtR Hybrid Electrostatic Speaker Help ?

Interesting... Looks like something Charivari would own. :D
Hey now, don't be saying .... um ... well (looks at pictures) you may be right. :scratch2: Those definitely are interesting looking speakers and are odd enough to appeal to me. I wonder how they image and sound overall?

Wait a minute: you've got speakers that look like that, and your asking how they are? Opinions -- we don't need no stinkin opinions!
The neato factor blows away minor quibbles like whether they are yin or yang or imaging or whatever.
And you like how they sound! Thanks for rubbing our noses in it...
But thanks for the pictures, however they got up.

RtR's

Thanks !

RtR's were almost a cult following back in the late 60's - early 70's - not many people heard of them. The RtR 280's with optional electrostatic "add on" on top were awesome. RtR made a stand alone 25" subwoofer (yes 25") that is still talked about. This was before Sunfire subs, etc. I turn down my subs on this system and use my Velodyne sub, which I am very happy with. If you look at the walnut sides and the slice of wood down the middle - all sides and matching speaker pairs had the walnut veneer matched - can't see that now days. Speaker sound is a most personal preference, as the way it is with cars. (Don't get me started on cars)

It would be a very boring world if we all liked the same thing.

And my favorite saying - You are only as big as the things that bother you!

Thanks to all of you on this web site -

Three things:
1. Welcome to AK
2. Droooooool.
3. Thank you for your last post. I'm tired of hearing "All RtRs are crap!" because someone has seen the BIC stuff.
I grew up with MC powered RtRs (a later, more efficient, non-electrostat version) and a Technics TT, all bought on the same day at the MAC dealer. I'd kill to hear some of the older electrostat stuff.
Oh yeah, and one more drool.

Anyone who says RtR's are crap are probably listening to the newer "BIC" speakers, which are on the same level as the KLHs' that they used to give for free at Best Buty with a receiver purchase. So I say to people who bad mouth RtRs' - well, uhh, good for you. Enjoy your free KLHs'. I got my RtRs' from a woman in the classified ads- selling "hi-fi" stuff and she literally told me - take anything else you want, including the brown box speakers in the corner - the grills are like new as well. Oh , I forgot to say - she had a Thorens TD124 without tone arm. My Polk RT800's are still in use in another room.
