Rush- NBC Radio Entertainment/Legends of Rock

I picked up this double LP which features 3 sides of Rush from this broadcast. The guy I got it from said his friend was a DJ in the 80's and was sent this LP set for their airplay which ended up not being broadcasted off this LP but was a live feed instead. He told me this set has never seen a needle before. It sure looks like it too. It even came with the playset and commercials. The good thing is the commercials are all 30 seconds spots after the songs. Here is a list of the tunes. I have to clean them up before I spin them but I'm hoping for some unique recordings or at least well recorded ones. I'll let you all know what they consist of as far as quality and uniqueness.
I found this on the web about it. Not much there, but it would be neat to have the Pink Floyd set too.

Sweet! As a lifelong Rush fan this is really cool. Have fun with the first spin and let us know what you think :thmbsp:

Well I spun it and first off I had a bit of a push to get it on the spindle as it was pretty snug. The SQ is amazing. Not only are the dynamics all there I bet I didn't hear three pops or tick on any of the three sides. On one song I could even hear the slight tape hiss which I haven't ever noticed on an lp before. Between each song there is a short conversation with the members of Rush about why they're still together and how they write and record music. If I had not known it was from 1988 I would of thought it was produced this year. I'm sure this is a hard set to come by but for you Rush fans keep your radar up cause you never know where one will turn up. But I seriously doubt you will EVER find one in the condition that I was lucky enough to stumble upon.
I answered an add on CL about a couple boxes of LPs and they were all junk and scratched up to boot. How these managed to survive with that pile of dreck is beyond me but you won't find gold if you don't dig thru the dirt every now and then. I wish there was a way I could give copies of this to the Rush fans here but I guess I'll be the lucky one this time around. Good luck in your search for Rush LP's.

Well, certainly there are ways...unfortunately none that I know of are legal.

As a Canadian subjected to the CRTC (Canadian Radio Telecommunications Commuication Bullshit Corporation) and their Canadian content laws, I would have never listened to Rush. I like hearing that a person not subjected to these inane laws likes the band, because they do have some good music.

PS. They do have some good music, I just don't like having it shoved down my throat constantly because or the 25% Canadian content laws. Kind of like Nickelback up here, that is all you hear so that the radio station can meet the requirement. 1/4 songs are Canadian, and of all the ones that are possiible, all they play is Nickelback and Ruch, I'm sure that there are many other Canadians here can comment here......

I'm eternally grateful for the Canadian content requirement. Canada is positively bursting at the seams with talent - always has been. You should count yourself lucky. Up here we're saturated with every single artist that our neighbours to the south enjoy, plus a whole whack of Canadian bands that many Americans may never get to hear. Look no further than the Tragically Hip as an example of what I'm talking about. As far as I am concerned, they could crank the requirement to 50% and there still wouldn't be enough hours in the day to get everybody on the air who deserves it.

As for the OP's discovery - what a score! It brought a smile to my face to read about the band being asked about the secret to their longevity - over twenty years ago!

I guess that I'm not knocking the law, just how they only use two or three bands at a time to implement it.....we do have a lot of talent, so why don't they showcase more of it?

For the same reason any U.S. station plays the same 40 songs over and over and over and over and over. Market demand. Flip on any classic rock station and what do you hear? Same bands, just more of them... realize that Canada's population is only 1/10th that of the U.S. and we've got a larger landmass to fill, there's not going to be that many superstar bands with the longevity to keep airplay time decades later.

If it has the commercials, was never out for sale, you don't play on another radio station, and you don't sell the copies; copying it for "personal" use maybe legal (fine thread between legal and illegal, but there are ways to play around it).
