Had a chance to go through this 1968 Sansui 2000 this morning. 1st cap-coupled Sansui I have listened to, very very nice :)
No big deal, lots of 2sc458's to change out, main caps etc etc. had a gotcha when I put the bottom cover back on, turns out one of the bonnet screws lines up perfectly with the + side of the right speaker terminal block. Left the tuner alone for now as it works fine.

Original wood case, soft green lighting, what's not to like. Also has (I assume) a U.S. serviceman's ssn engraved on the back plate so probably brought back from overseas many years ago

My favourite cap coupled amp unfortunately the wife hates it! much prefering the au/tu 505 purely from an aesthetic perspective.
I've swapped out all of the small signal transistors the caps are all original still.

May i ask what you have used? i can see some changes in the pre amp/power supply and output caps.

Cheers

What grindfix said! I started this hobby with Dad's old 2000 and... it's well into "obsession" territory now.

Small capacitance upgrade to mains 3300uf 100v Nichicon from 2000uf 75v.
Same for amp cards 2200uf 63v from 2000 50v Nichicon

I've got a 2000, 2000A, and 2000X. The only difference sound wise is wattage and I can't tell between the 2000 and the "X" unless on a scope. All have a smooth sound that belies their 28w-39w rating. JAZZ, Blues, classical play my Sansui's. Rock, heavy metal, play my Pioneers. 40's-50's Big Band and Orchestra......FISHER! Those are my choices. YMMV!

You are correct that the 2000 model does not use a Vbe Multiplier transistor, but rather a diode string (D801-D804 or D805-D808). Nevertheless, a capacitor installed between the bases of the driver transistors ( TR803 and TR804 or TR809 and TR810) would yield the same benefits as a Vbe Mulltiplier By-pass capacitor.

So a bi-polar or film cap to the base of each transistor? 1-50uf 50v? @Leestereo Is there a way that I can add taps for pre out and main in on the tone board f-1016 or amp board f-1001c?
