Sansui 5050 or 5000a

Have the option on both to buy. Both around 200. 5050 looks clean and the 5000a needs new power switch. I know the 5050 is lower watts but not by much. I have also read about the 5000a bad boards that can burn up. Does anyone have any experience with these two receivers?

Completely different animals, the 5000A is cap coupled and probably has the problematic F-1040 amp boards.
The 5050 is a pretty standard mid-70s receiver and much easier to work on if you like to do that.

Listen to them both, let your ears decide.

If you can open it up, do so, and look to see which Amp boards are in there. If they are the F-1040, new boards are avalible but they will cost you $120+ and the you still have to have them installed.

Not to hijack but I just picked up a 5000a that has had the boards replaced at some point with F-6013 boards and I've rebuilt a 4000 and model 2000 recently. These things seem much older than the five(?) year difference between them and the 5050. I love my cap coupled 4000 but I had to rebuild it.
