Sansui 6060 no sound either channel

Hello all,

I have acquired a Sansui 6060 receiver in really good shape.

I have no volume on either channel through headphones or speakers with any source.

All fuses good. Output transistors tested fine. Protection relay working. Deox'd all pots.

Could not find a good service manual on this unit. Only schematic.

Any thoughts?

Tape monitor switch in the right posistion ? Did you check your fuses with a meter ?

Yep tape mon is off. Fuses all good.

Would the protection circuit work if fusible resistors failed?

Yes it could possibly still come out of protection depending on how the protection circuit is setup and/or where the fusibles are in circuit.

You are correct in thinking this though as some models would def not come out of protection with a fusible failure, ie an AU-417 l am just working on, but the fusibles on this model are in a different position in the circuit than your 6060.

I was thinking mainly of the ones on the amplifier board but there are also a couple on the power supply board on this model if memory serves me correctly.

Well you were bang on all 4 220ohm fr 's were out of range. (my component tester showed them as unknown!)

I replaced, however I still have no sound.

I had replaced all caps on the driver board except the 33uf caps as I dont have any of those.

I have also replaced the 4 x A726 with KSA992 (noting different pinouts)

The BIAS current is measuring about 500mv on both channels (even with the unit off)

Should i still focus on the driver board?

Hmm that is very odd, there should be no current flow (measured in mV across the emitters) with the unit off. With the unit on and that sort of BIAS reading the outputs and/or the driver transistors would overheat and fail in short order.

Where are you measuring the BIAS at? I wouldn't power it back on until you are sure all components on the driver/amplifier board are good.
 
Resolved, ended up being that fuse resistor on the preamp board. R601.

Great news, sorry l forgot that damn lone fusible on the pre amp, you have jogged my memory now as l had to replace it also on my 6060 when l had it a couple of years back. It is near the edge of the board, correct?

It's nice when it ends up being a 50c fix.

Is the Bias reading across the emitter resistors and DC offset at the speaker terminals o.k?
 
It is right near the edge! So in summary, all 5 fusible's were toast. Good lesson for Sansui hobbyists.

The Bias is the tricky part, since I have the 2701 main board, the service manual I have is likely wrong.

Ill have a look around and see if i can find the proper measurement locations.

Yes they are very problematic those fusibles, although good that there are prob quite a few non working Sansui's out there that prob just need these replaced.

I remember the two distinct versions as you mention as mine was the "other" version also. Should be the same BIAS value for both as l highly doubt the emitter resistors are different values between versions.

The test point pic in the service manual is correct.
 
does the 601 resistor need to be replaced with a fused resistor? I need to replace it on my 6060 and i don't have a fusible one

Best to forego fusible resistors, assuming you can even find them. Use precision metal film types of equivalent resistance and wattage.
