hi there, i am working on a lovely sansui au-101 - all recapped but one channel is still distorted. I was able to confirm that both outputs on the left channel were faulty - model hitachi C1060, I am wondering if a C1061 is a good/able substitute? Or alternatively if anyone recommend a good substitute I'll try source it, many thanks!

I think I might know you from SNA???.....:D

2SC1060's are available from WES components in Sydney (shipping via post is approx $7.50)

http://www.wescomponents.com/

or from gocompany in QLD

http://www.gocompany.com.au/gosemiconductors.htm

Haven't dealt with gocompany before, not sure if they have a min order qty, WES don't.

Edit: The 2SC1060 and the 2SC1061 are identical specs, the only difference is the 2SC1060 has the collector lead clipped off (collector connection made via the tab/mounting screw), whereas the 2SC1061 is in the standard TO220 arrangement. The gain ranking of any replacement should be either B or C

Hope this helps.

Cheers

John

thanks John, i changed the outputs but theres still distortion. i suspect the drivers are toast, do wes sell the original cdc8000/9000 drivers?

Found it.... I used BD139 and BD140 (watch the pin outs).

Woodang lists a replacement for the CDC8000 as 2SD600K, and the CDC9000 as a 2SB631K.

http://www.woodang.net/substitutes.htm

The BD139/BD140 are listed elsewhere as alternatives for the 2SD600K/2SB631K

EDIT: the service manual also lists 2SA678/2SC634A as alternatives, you could use BC557/BC547 or BC560/BC550 (again watch the lead pin outs)
