Sansui AU-919 repair

Hello,

I am a sansui fan and have been reading the exclusive sansui forum for some time. I had sansui AU-717 before and now was enjoying AU-919.

Few days back my 919 stopped working. Fuse blows and if i enter new one it blows. i see very possibility for blown output transistors.

I live in El Paso TX. can some one repair my AMP. I have read BeatleFred and EchoWars articles, if you guys can share some contacts will be Appreciable.

Good chance. I got your PM, but I'll answer here. I'm fairly close to you and with that piece, I've seen them anywhere from horrible to not bad, depending on how much glue they slung in it (they used it to hold the heavier capacitors to the boards). It is very evil stuff. It becomes conductive and eats the leads off components over time. Not good at all really. I can do it, just be ready for a healthy bill if it's too bad (there is your fair warning). Very good amp though and MUST be worked on by someone that's been through the wringer with them. I have one here now that needs about half the components replaced in the thing.. Gimme a shout if you want to move foreward.

Hi all, I recently bought an AU-919 in mint condition but completely original. I have read all the warnings here and intend to do a recap of all the ECs. However you guys scared me into wanting to replace the 'black flags' as well, by silver micas.
I have seen the pictures of the full restaurations done by Scottrt and others and this is something I would like to postpone until after retirement ;-). So for now I would like to focus on doing preventative maintenance with minimal time investment. Currently I do not use my record player, so I will disconnect the MC head amp and the MM equalizer amp and leave them alone until needed.

Questions:
1. The unit sounds great but is running quite warm above the driver board, even at no output volume. Is this normal? By the way, I have checked bias and DC values and these were not too far off. Adjusted to well within specs but still hot.
2. I intend to replace all ECs on the power supply boards (except the big oval ones), the driver board, and possibly the flat amp as well. Is there something else I should be replacing?
3. Is it sufficient to replace the black flags on the driver board only, or can a failure of one of these in the flat amp also cause the end transistors to blow?
4. Is there a quick and easy way to remove the power supply and the driver boards? So far I have mainly worked in separates and tuners, where access is far less challenging... Any tips and tricks are welcome!

Hey guys,
I have a 919 as well that now needs attention! I rookied a mistake and adjusted tthe speaker terminal with power on and then i seen a small flash from top and lost all power.. Is there any chance that this is a triggered blown fuse?
In addition i am pretty sure this is all original.. that being said i can say that it is the cleanest 919 i have ever seen. Any help is appreciated.. And before you shoot your responces over my head.. know that I am not a newb to audiophilia however the technical jargon is beyond me..
 
You will be extremely lucky if you have not blown your output transistors, and inserting another fuse might cause more damage. Note this is not a job for a novice at electronic fault finding, and while making repairs really the AU-919 should be properly restored.

Hello HSinghv, wondering if you found someone in El Paso to repair your Amp. I also have a AU-919
