Sansui AU-X117 volume potentiometer

Greetings to all.

I have to repair a small Sansui AU-117X amplifier, I can't find the electronic diagram anywhere, so I have to make do.
The first thing I saw break down is the dual volume pot that resides in the 6269 "Control" board.
It is a very strange PCB potentiometer, which I had never seen,
it is from ALPS Japan and is marked with the Sansui part number 49480900-150KBX2 and then there is another number 251C.
I can't find any reference to be able to buy it new, can you help me?

Other information, the amplifier should have been built between 1992 and 1993.
The dual potentiometer is completely interrupted, I am adding more photos that might help someone give me some more information.
Although the amplifier is small and ugly, I want to try to give it a second chance at life

thanks again

Good evening,

I found that Sansui AU-X117 amplifier is the same as AU-X111,
finally with a diagram, I can proceed more quickly to repair.

ciao

Hi, there. I' m recently facing similar problem on a AU-X111's 6269 board , though with the balance pot (250KMN), Sansui stock no 49481000.
This pot (or voltage regulator) has a shape as strange as the Volume controller you mentioned.
The pot has been totally ruined internally, thus blocking the INPUT signal to the main amplifying IC. The amp is working ONLY when DIRECT CD selector is activated.
Do you have any idea where such replacement can be found? Any suggestion would be highly appreciated

I suspect both the volume and balance controls will be very difficult to find I that form factor, having PCB pins that mount straight-in, rather than at a right angle. Is it at all possible to use a more conventionally arranged part, tack extension wires to the pins, and then into the board? If the control mounts to the front panel, and isn't entirely reliant on support from being soldered to the board, I'd think such a work around could be an acceptable fix.

Dual gang pots for the balance should be fairly easy to find (excepting the mounting style/pin orientation), the volume is a bit odd due to being 150K audio taper, and having a loudness tap. That said, a suitable used part (of equivalent resistance value, and having the 4th loudness tap terminal) could likely be found on eBay with a little effort.

Thanks a lot for your valuable suggestions, Currently, I keep searching for 2nd hand pot from inoperable=rejected units, because the available space/arrangement is rather tight, Thank God, for the time being, I need only the bal pot, as main vol is OK. I'll keep you posted for any development.
Thanks once again! - Takis

Hi,
The repair is going slow because potentiometers are hard to find, fortunately the balance potentiometer is the only one that still works well:

- stereo volume potentiometer with loudness tap (2 x 4 pins) 100 KOhm
Of course I couldn't find any original model, I think whoever made the potentiometer (ALPS) made it only for Sansui.
I found something similar on Aliespress which I will adapt via soldered wires (as Sansuiman said).
I am waiting for them to arrive from China.

- Bass and Treble tone potentiometers (6 pins) 50 KOhm
These 6-pin potentiometers I also found on Aliespress, also are quite strange,
in fact it is a single potentiometer but with 2 opposite graphite layers, look at the pinout picture.
I am waiting for them to arrive from China.

Unfortunately, here in Italy it is difficult to find cheap electronics stores, as you could find 30 years ago.
You have to order everything from China and it takes a long time because shipping is cheap, you have to be patient.

Much appreciated. You have been extremely helpful in locating alternatives for the balance pot. Have ordered already and is expected by mid-end March. Chinese/Taiwan etc. Of course will need to modify/adopt as per Sansuiman suggestions, since the ordered is not in single deck but in double arrangement. The important is that the ordered pot, is operating in MN specs (I'm attaching hereto the info I gathered from other sources regarding the MN features) so that may be helpful to other members as well.
