Hi Folks

I am looking for some advice. I have a Sansui QRX 6500 and I also have a pair of Sansui AS 200 speakers. I am really finding that speakers have very little depth and I was looking for some recommendations as to which speakers I should consider trying to improve the sound and overall depth, my set up sounds a little weak

thanks in advance

With the lower power you have, the Dynaco A 25 is a great choice. Not the deepest bass, but efficient and easy to live with. Sounds very nice on all but the bottom octave.

Welcome to AK!

Actually the AS-200's are among the best speakers that Sansui ever built. They are not the typical "Kabuki" speakers that Sansui and other Japanese Manufacturers were known for. I won't try and explain what "Kabuki" means as there is plenty here on AK explaining the term that you can hunt down.
The AS 100's, 200's, 300's are an acoustic suspension design that was built to compete with the AR's, Advents, EPI, ADS, KLH acoustic suspension offerings of the day. There is a very good chance that your 200's may need to have the crossovers recapped (new capacitors). Also a lot of the AS designs had cloth surrounds rather than foam, although not all. If that is the case with the 200's there is a chance that the cloth surrounds have become porous as the compound that would have been sprayed over the surrounds more than likely has disintegrated over time. When that happens the speaker loses it's seal which is key to the effectiveness of an acoustic suspension design and the deep and natural bass that come with their design. The AS 200's are quite capable of giving you the depth you are looking for. A little TLC might go a long ways rather than making a new speaker purchase. Again, welcome to AK. :thmbsp:

Nice Job!

And those AS Sansui speakers were indeed the best the company ever made. Very nice sounding and more refined than most of the other Japanese speakers then. I even love the old Sansui Kabuki era speakers for high efficiency choices.

I had a pair of Sansui SP-2500's. You're right, took little power to make them loud. Actually they sounded very good by adding in a powered sub. They were just disappointing like most Kabuki speakers in that they didn't have the bass to match the large cabinet size.

My Sansui QRX-6500 is driving a stacked quad of Advent 5012s/Large Advents. Also running a 10" Polk Audio sub. Love the combo. Best of luck.
