One of these kinda unusual RCAs is on the way...an MX-7 AM/FM receiver. Does anyone have or know of a source for a schematic for this thing? I don't think they sold a lot of these, they were kind of high end for RCA, a Fisher wannabe competitor maybe. I've checked SAMS and Tannenbaums...no dice. Anyone???

Don't have the schematic...

But I do own one that I picked years ago.

I always get a chuckle from my friends when I mention that the front panel reminds me of the old "50's" type Tappen stove in my house when I was a kid!

Output tranny's look decent, but I have so many other projects to do that I have not looked at it to see what I have to do to get it running again. I never did try to power it up.

Regards, Ron

I hope someone posts one, because I'd love to see it. A nice 6973 amplifier in there. I have been wanting one for some time, since they seem to be pretty well "loaded".

Ya, it's odd that they seem so rare, being that RCA made gazillions of mono phono consoles and record players, and was #1 in radios & TVs for eons...my Dad had one of these in the 60s, but it disappeared in a move, and been looking for awhile... I did some web research - I guess they came into the higher end of the market a bit too late to compete with established receivers from Fisher et al. Seems they made some nice mono separates earlier in the 1950s, but apparently they never sold well either... You'd think with an outfit as big as RCA there would be a schematic for an MX-7 floating around someplace!! Did they put out a manual for their service techs or dealers? Any old RCA'ers out there? Roger A. in Bingo NY - the home of McIntosh.

Trying to revive a dead thread to find the RCA MX-7 schematic. Anyone out there have a copy? I'm starting to think this schematic is impossible to find. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

ebay item 121835739677. Its a complete unit and the guy has the manual. Maybe you can bribe him to make you a copy of the manual?

Thank you sooooo much for the reply. I've offered that eBay seller $$$ to email a picture of his manual to me but have gotten no response.

I bought that unit. He has so far been unable to come up with the manual or schematics. Sorry, I'll let you know if he does.

Try beitmans manuals, and check the chassis # , don't go by the unit's model #.

As I no nothing electronically (Mechanical Designer) I'm real slow (stupid) about most of what y'all talk about, but I'm trying :).
Thank you very much Mr. Larry!

I just checked beitmans and rider from 1960 to 1969 and NADA. I was under the impression that this was a console unit. It's a Receiver and a standalone at that. Apparently there may be no schematics or other paper work available.

Larry thank you so very much for your help!!!! I have a tech friend in Michigan that rebuilds all my Fisher's. I just may throw all this in his lap! :)
But any info is my appreciated, it is such a beautiful unit and I want to do right by it. Thanks again!

Hi Mark,

I see you've been a member for close to 10yr's and this is your first post, so congrats. This is just a suggestion, posting your email address on an open forum is not a good idea. It could lead to you getting spammed which is not pleasant.

If you the schematic & manual in a pdf document you can upload it to this thread and or here* see link attached link

I have one of these. Need a schematic and a dial stringing diagram. Surprisingly, mine worked from the start, with only a weak channel (the hated 7199 is the driver tube to the 6973s). The fm section seems pretty hot. I’ll fix it up as soon as I can get that dial strung.

They were rare, because RCA didn't build very much non Broadcast separate component items of better quality, and RCA then tended to be average quality in consumer radios/phonos at best with rare exception. This was a more expensive RCA than the typical RCA consumer radio/phono buyer would buy. This is arguably the finest HiFi item RCA's consumer division ever made. A shame that RCA Victor couldn't sell many of these, as it's a very fine receiver. Wonder if there's a Sams for this? As it might be the only alternative schematic option.

5CZ5/6CZ5 tubes can also be used in these amps with some minor modifications. 21.5 watts per channel is a nice little amp and 6973/6CZ5 tubes are great sounding and better sounding than most output tubes.
