I have a Scott 340B in excellent condition. It always worked very well stock. I have since replaced all signal caps, under chassi electrolytics and selenium rectifier. It sure is beatiful in a darkened room. I do like the round dials on Scotts older tuners and receivers.
 
Anyone have a 399 Schematic?

Does anyone know where I could find a Schematic for a 399? and a 335 MPX? Mine has a hum and I would like to take a shot at recapping both before running them more.

I've tried the sources listed in the tube forum sticky and the HH Scott site but coming up empty handed :(

Being new to tubes and vintage gear was wondering if service manuals existed for gear this old?
 
I know about the HH Scott site and tried there. I get a lot of hits mentioning the 399 but no actual schematic. Tried again still nothing :no:

I found the 335 but nothing on 399 and with so much talk here on AK about blowing transformers I'm scared to run it anymore with out replacing the caps first. Oh well the sucker still looks great sitting on the shelf till then :)
 
This is the birthday present that my daughters gave me.:smlove: It was pretty dusty and dirty but was otherwise in pretty decent shape for its age. After spending a couple of days cleaning it up it now looks pretty nice. The chassis still has signs of pitting in some places but everything else cleaned up nicely. I powered it up slowly with a variac and cleaned all of the controls, switches and connectors with Deoxit. It now works reasonably well. The FM tuner brings in stations as well as most other receivers but the AM is pretty weak. One channel on the amplifier is stronger than the other, especially when the loudness switch is set to the loudness position. I have not yet replaced any of the caps but intend to do so soon. I don't have a manual on this unit and can't seem to locate one. There are what appear to be the bias adjustment controls on the chassis but I don't know how to adjust them or what they should be set to. I have searched through AK and Google for info but have not been able to locate the info. If anyone can point me in the right direction I sure would appreciate it. Any additional suggestions or information will also be appreciated.

One side note, while working on cleaning the chassis I really was struggling to find something that would cut through 40+ years worth of sticky crud that had built up. I tried everything that I could think of from Simple Green to alcohol to mineral spirits, even GooGone. Nothing seemed to do the trick sufficiently. One night I broke for dinner and cleaned up my hands with some GoJo waterless hand cleaner that I keep in the garage. It worked like magic on my hands. Bingo! I tried applying that stuff to the chassis and top mounted components (using a lot of care) with a stiff brush and it worked great! I was able to clean up that nasty sticky crud and the brush made it easy to get all of the cracks and crevices. Clean up of the GoJo was simple. Then I applied some automotive cleaner / wax. I am not sure what is in waterless hand cleaner like GoJo but if it is easy on my hands it can't be too harmful to the chassis and components. It sure made the cleanup a lot easier than everything else that I tried and the results are excellent.

That is a beautiful receiver! I tend to like the looks of Scott but they did that one particularly well.
