Scott Receiver info or experience?

I've picked up a solid-state Scott RS50 Receiver (ca. 1987) and am wondering if anyone can tell me anything about it or a close cousin model of that approximate vintage. I've skimmed a couple of hundred "Scott receiver" posts after searching AK, and didn't turn up any recent discussion related to this or similar models.

The main Scott resource I've found online seems to specialize in 60s and earlier tube equipment. A fellow in Wisconsin, selling one of these units on craigslist, claims in his posted specs that it is 270 Watts, but I'm relatively certain that is power consumption, not an audio output figure.

Thanks for your help.

I only have memory to go on but it's closer in the 30-70 watts area if it's the one with the built in Eq, other wise I have no idea. If you had an older Tube unit you would have a lot of info available!
How does it sound?:music:

Yes, it has an equalizer, and yes, it looks almost identical to that RS-500. I wonder what the extra zero stands for.

So far I have tried the tuner and have connected it to a CD player. I have only connected it to some very compact speakers so far, but the audio seems to be working fine. The only real problem is that the tuner display doesn't light up. It is rather disconcerting that one can't tell what frequencies one is tuning through, but the actual tuning function works.

I only paid 8 bucks for it so I don't want to complain too much.

The more important test will be when I find out how it sounds with a turntable and some better speakers.

Apparently, this unit worked with a remote. I'm not terribly optimistic about finding one that will work with it.

Almost certainly after Scott got bought about the fifth time. That's not to say it doesn't work. It's probably a decent piece. But earlier Scotts were what gets most of the attention. Try googling HH Scott with the model number.

resurrection time...
found a Scott RS500 on recycle pile. the tuner needs an occasional bump to light. the signal meter lights turn on when I power up the unit but don't work during use; disappointing but no big deal.
tried a universal remote, no luck.
sounds ok. an upgrade frm the RCA unit in my junk room, which had too much snap/crackle/pop.
mfg date 1989. I'd never heard of Scott as far as elex go. heavy unit, definitely not BPC. worth holding onto for now.
I have it hooked up to the old RCA speakers, which work fine. they were reboxed from an old cabinet hi-fi also from recycle pile.
the antenna posts have the knobs instead of screws. the speaker connect is the one where you press the tab and open the little hidey hole. (obviously I'm not well versed in some of the lingo) so no special plug needed; these make this user friendly, at least for me. working on pix now.

the recycle demon had chopped off the power cord so had to splice a new one. hope he enjoys his twenty cents of copper :thumbsdn:

gotta love free stereo! :thmbsp:

I had a mid-80's Pioneer that looked a lot like that. Must have been the style of the era. Those display lights usually do not burn out. You probably have a loose connection or blown fuse.

thx hth. next day off will crack open and take a look. like I said, no big deal. this isn't the living room unit I look at as I listen to where the lights make a difference.

For Illinoisteve: I found a remote for a Scott RS500 on eBay for about $14. Works. Does anyone have a manual for the RS500?

resurrection alert: the Scott RS50 is apparently the same as the RS30. The service manual is available from rick stock number SCTRS50-SM

the display not lighting is a burnt pioneer dash like bulb which should be LED. it gets WAY too hot and eventually damages the LCD display.

In case anyone wants to know, I'm not still looking for ANY info about the Scott RS50. I asked about it back in the spring of 2009, and I no longer have it, having found it a new home with someone else a few years ago.

Now I don't mind if other people interested in that model or its kin want to keep this thread alive. Just don't expect me to be a participant. ;)

no worries, I put these easter eggs out there in case someone comes along later via the same mechanism: google search. any info is info.
